Packard Super 8 Engine Rebuild part 3

Part 3 of the rebuild. Previously we had put most of the cylinder block together, minus the pistons. All the valves, guides, springs, and lifters are in.
Today we got most of the lower wrapped up. Installed and torqued the rods onto the crankshaft, installed cotter pins, and trimmed so there was no interference.
We installed the cam rollers and the fuel pump. We placed Permatex first, then the gasket, then Permatex again. Our hope is to have no leaks at all when all is said and done.

How did the rest of the project work out?

Unfortunately after we got it all back together and started it up, there was a water leak in cylinder #2. It turns out the block had too much corrosion and pitting in the water jacket, leaving thin spots, and boring the cylinders must have left a pinhole. There were a few other spots that were problems as well. We've since sourced a new block and will redo this whole process.

@@freewake84 Random question but is this engine going in the mustang that was in the background of part 1? a 68 mustang has been my dream car for a while and since I discovered that straight 8 engines existed I can't stop thinking about what that kind of pairing would be like. Look forward to seeing the next part
