TOM BIHN Side Hustle Review (2 Weeks of Use)

The loops you mention at 2:20 are to attach Tom Bihn hip belts like their Gatekeeper or padded hip belt, instantly converting it to a hip pack. I have traveled with the Side Effect for years and love the flexibility of carry. I also use those little loops to attach #4 S-Biners, which I then clip to the seatback pocket on planes which is great for keeping all my essentials close by, yet in one package so you just grab and go and eliminate leaving something behind on the plane. BONUS - you can use the open end of one of the carabiners to clip in your water bottle to keep it handy and off the floor. Great review, as always. This is an interesting bag that might replace my Side Kick since it would also be big enough to keep my iPad out of the seatback pocket!

If it's anything like the Side Kick, the side webbing is probably to attach the gatekeeper strap they sell separately to change the carry profile.

I ordered this bag the second they announced it and then promptly returned it once I received it. I found the bag too floppy unless you had it fully packed. Also, the inside pockets caved into the main compartment if you had heavier items in there (like your wallet) so you had to move them out of the way to access the main compartment space. It was just to finiky for my use. If the inside pockets could be closed shut with magnets or something it might have been better, but they were just in the way for me.

Good to know, I really want to like this bag because of the proportions but I can see that it's really soft. I got their cafe bag years ago, well made but soft, what I really didn't like was it turns out with the big flap closure and none of the smaller pockets had zippers or anything, if the bag isn't upright, stuff comes out...

Prob useful for people who need to carry more stuff for family members, and/or to hang on the back of an airplane seat during travel. Personally it seems too big/wide and awkward for me (5'4"). Plus, I couldn't stop thinking about the old meme where Steve Jobs duct-taped 4 iPhones together to come up with iPad.

I feel that way too. The corners and edges where they're sewn looked crimped and somewhat rumpled. Maybe that's just part of the Tom Bihn charm....
