Good video with strong points. Things he forgot to mention: 1 - start the china barrel with a layer of crushed paper to form a barrier. 2 - after you finish each layer, go back over it and stuff paper in all crevices (especially on the sides) to avoid movement within the barrel and buffer them from side impact. Each layer gets another layer of crushed paper on top of it - to buffer it from the next layer. 3 - Strong things (plates) on the bottom layer, light stuff (stemware) on the top layer. 4 - personal taste - I like to wrap stemware in pairs. Wrap the first one, then invert the next one and bundle it with the first - that way they support each other. But yes, once packed properly, you can stack unbelievable weight on them and subject the barrels to a lot of abuse. (and yes, I was a mover).

I can attest to the effectiveness of this type of packing. After our first military move, I opened a dish pack to discover our KitchenAid mixer had been placed on top of our Lenox Holiday china. The china had been packed exactly as this video demonstrates and not a single piece was damaged.

Good video. Thanks. What do you put on top of the first layer? Do you put another layer of loose paper, or a cardboard separator?

I have to move out of the country and I'm hoping that will do. I'm thinking about packing like this and place in a box and then inside the suitcase. I'm freaking out tho. 😅

All of these packing china videos always recommend paper, but my issue is that it's far more expensive than actually using bubble wrap I've found. A single piece of paper is cheaper at $0.05 until your using several pieces between each layer when you could just use bubble wrap. I find that it's easier to reuse too. Maybe moving companies get the paper in bulk for dirt cheap, but if you're doing it yourself bubble wrap seems like the more practical option unfortunately.
