My absolute favourite summer course was a few years back on this little island here in Finland. We rode bikes to the studio every day (it was about 3km away from where we were staying) and even had ballet classes on the beach and woods (using trees as barres!). The scenery was just beautiful and I made lots of new friends. At the end of the course there was a small performance to the locals of the island.

What is the name if the school and is it international ?
@milja2360
@milja2360 9 жыл бұрын
It's actually not a school but a separate course held annually by three teachers from different dance schools. I bet they would take international students as well, but I checked their website and it seems to be only in Finnish. The course is called "Tanssia meren äärellä" (dance at sea) if you still wanna check it out. :)

My favorite summer course has to be Houston Ballet. I attended last year, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Being one of the longer programs at six weeks, I was able to absorb so much more and noticed huge improvement by the end. I'm so excited to be going again this year as a level six student!

It was my favorite because the teachers were amazing and I felt like they helped me improve so much. And they didn't just offer ballet but jazz, contemporary, etc. This summer is going to be my first summer intensive away and I am sooo excited. And your tips in this video were very helpful!

My favorite summer course was American Academy of Ballet in Purchase, New York. This summer intensive offered a variety of teachers ranging from Balanchine to strict Russian ballet. It was my first summer intensive that I ever went to. It was eye opening to experience people from the America, Brazil, and Germany come together to share their love for dance. This year I will be attending Next Generation Ballet in Tampa, Florida. I look forward to those experiences and being around people that love to dance. Thank you so much for your videos they have helped me so much when I have been lost about some topics. Keep going I don't know what I would do without them.

In 2013, ABT at UNCSA and 2012 was when she decided to leave the local studio and dig deeper into the art of ballet after attending the Orlando Ballet summer intensive. Our lives have been enriched by this art ! Well wishes and safe travels to all. Thank you Kathryn Morgan from the bottom of my heart for your social media mentorship.

My favorite (and first) summer course was the SAB Young Dancers Workshop in LA. I went to it back in 2011 and I was barely on pointe but I remember being so in awe of all the talent around me and of the amazing teachers I had the opportunity to take classes from. This summer was the first year I really learned about what it takes to make it in the ballet world. This was also the summer I fell in love with Balanchine technique. I'm not in touch with anyone from this intensive anymore but I have met a couple people who also went to it in dance classes around where I live. I will always hold this summer dear in my memory and I am so honored to have had the SAB Young Dancers Workshop be the first SI I ever attended.

I am so exited for this next summer intensive because after watching your Ballet Summer Course Survival Guide video my goal is to learn and absorb everything! This year I am going to the Houston ballet summer program, level 5! I have just started thinking about packing so this video was perfect. I have calculated and wrote a list of the number of pointe shoes, ballet attire, and regular clothes to bring. Thank you so much for all your videos, they help me so much!

Hi Kathryn, I just want to say you've been a huge inspiration to me over the past year and you even encouraged me to work harder in my dance classes. To find someone who is so caring about the future of ballet (dance in general) and is willing to post fantastic videos to help dancers who are still learning( which is every dancer, at least in my personal opinion) I just think it's very endearing. This is the first year I shall be taking a summer intensive so these tips really help knowing in the long run. I will be going to the Alvin Ailey SI in Manhattan. Thank you for everything and I look forward to future videos :).

My all time favorite summer course was the Joffrey Ballet summer course in Chicago. They worked on variations and a lot of technique.At the end, our family members and friends were able to com see the final performance. Not only did I make a lot of new friends. I really improved on technique. They also thought us how to prepare for future shows, eat healthy, and a few warm-ups. So that's why I still love the Joffrey Ballet Summer Course in Chicago!!!

I live in Europe and last year I was at NDT summer intensive and it was incredible experience. I've improved there so much. I love summer intensives, because you can be 100% focused on dancing (no school!), you are given trainig from new teachers and you are surrounded by dancing freaks ;) It also forces you to step out of your comfort zone, which leads to improvement.

My absolute favourite Summer Course was last year with the Brisbane City Youth Ballet Theatre. It was such a fabulous 1 week program and was very amazing. We started off with a great class each day, working on our technique and artistry. After a mini break we would finish off our jumps or start our pointe class. During lunch we rolled out our muscles, did stretches, socialised, turned on the TV we had in the studio and watched ballets with Marianela Nunez in Swan Lake and other ballerinas in Sleeping Beauty. After lunch we had classical variations. We learnt the Kitri fan variation, opening act Coppelia variation, learnt the Sleeping Beauty variation and the Sugar Plum variation throughout the whole week. We always ended out days with a mini strengthening and stretching class that included planking for a couple of songs, doing a diagram strength flow of exercises, a back strength flow of exercises, some deep core work, leg work and stretches for the splits. Following that week, we were of course very sore and had so many ice baths and applied so much heat cream, we had our first week of Brisbane City Youth Ballet Snow Queen Season rehearsals. We started each day off with class, had a mini break, and started our contemporary piece rehearsal for a gala we were doing. The contemporary piece was stunning and we worked on that everyday of the second week. We then launched into rehearsals for the Snow Queen ballet after contemporary rehearsal. It was a very fun two weeks and I learnt so much! Rehearsals for the gala and for the production continued throughout the whole year and the performances for the Snow Queen went very well. I was in the Gypsy Camp, was a Snow Maiden in the Snow Palace and was in the Eastern Summer Palace as a Eastern Summer Maiden. It was great fun but hard work.

I've only been going away from home for summer courses for one year so naturally my favorite is the one I did last year which is also the one I'm returning to this year! I'm going to CPYB just like you did! Last year I had such an amazing experience. The five weeks away from home were really eye opening to me and I loved taking care of myself while also being supported by everyone there but the best part was the ballet program itself. I had Pat Sorrell, Robert Steel, Christina Hampton, and so many other amazing teachers. I made a lot of progress during the program and it really solidified my dreams of being a dancer. Getting to focus on ballet for that long and that intensely was everything I wanted and I can't wait to do it again this summer!

My first summer intensive was The Joffrey Workshop TX in San Antonio. I saved every paycheck from my first real job to pay for this intensive and I earned $4500 in nine months and spent it all on the tuition, room and board, and items needed for the intensive. It was a lot of hard work and stress on my part but in the end, I enjoyed the intensive so so much and I think I really received more out of it than if my parents had been able to pay for it. I really grew up that summer in more ways than one. I LOVE your videos Katie thank you for what you do!

This would be awesome because I'm trying to get back into dancing! You are so lovely. My favorite summer course has been at a community college on the basics of dancing ballet. My favourite summer intensive that I have ever attended was definitely my experience at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School. I attended the school for four weeks and there was a variety of different classes such as ballet, pointe, modern and character dance. I really enjoyed the modern class because there was an actual percussionist in the room playing the bongos and it was the first time that music other than piano music was being played live! It was also the first time that I have ever had character dance. This was a very new experience for me as well. My favourite part of this class was probably the barre and the tarantella dance because we were able to move our bodies freely. I am very grateful for the experience that I had at RWB because I was able to attend the summer intensive with my sister alongside with me. This summer intensive was about 3 years ago and I can remember probably everyday because I wrote every day down in my journal. I think that my technique has really improved and prospered from after this summer intensive because I had learned so much. Today, I think that the dancer that I am has to do with the fact that I began to take by ballet career more seriously after this intensive because I was surrounded by such talented people. Thank you so much for your video Kathryn! Alicia🌼

Hi Kathryn! I don't have one favourite summer course, because every time I take part in one I learn something new and have fun so it's difficult to choose a class that I enjoied the most.I can't wait to attend more amazing classes this holiday, because in order to be well-rounded dancer I decided to take classes in tap and hip hop which I've never take before. Hope you have amazing day :)

Last year I went to an fantastic summer course. It was a little short, only 1week, but I've learned SO MUCH! It was just for modern dance,and I was so afraid of modern because everyone told me that modern is so so so difficult and so so so exhausting, but my teacher was so fantastic (she learned in NY as well) and she taught me so much, I'm so happy I went there, I made an enormous step forward in my dancing because of that course :) Lots of love from Germany x3
