As a former military wife, I learned to pack this way. I never realized others did not pack this way until I traveled with a friend. My single suitcase for a week was easy to maneuver and I had ample choices for everything we did. Her two bulky suitcases did not have what she needed so she shopped and brought home a third bag. This way is better and easier to keep track of in large cities. Thank you.

Omg one of my favorite subjects, packing LIGHT! I’ve overpacked and it’s the WORST. Now I only take one small carryon no matter how long I’ll be gone. Yeah Brogues....my choice too...smart ..warm...comfortable... Good tip...always start with shoes...they can be the hardest to buy choose and need to be right...the rest can be easier to fit around them.

I totally agree with your point in not buying new clothes to fit it. I used to do that and soon realised that I was compartmentalising my wardrobe too much rather than just understanding no matter where you go the clothes you buy need to suit you not just always your circumstances. How exciting going to Paris for fashion week! I love your choices and your comments about staying true to yourself wherever you travel. The only thing I would add is perhaps a second pair of shoes in case your derbies start hurting. I usually bring a pair of flip flops or comfortable slip ons for the hotel at the very least. Thanks for great trip advice I went to india in Feb travelling cold to hot and sightseeing .Had very comfortable brown flat shoes for temples and sandles for evening. Yes black trousers for traveling that can be washed plus different tops and layers. It was a wonderfull trip xxx

I traveled to my home state of Illinois last October, and it was supposed to be cold, so I packed what I had in the way of warm clothes. Mind you, I currently live in Florida. Well, it wasn’t as cold as it was forecasted to be, but it was cool enough for me. I tried to employ a “uniform” type style, with leggings, long-sleeved tunic tops, and a couple of flannel shirts to wear over the tunic tops if the temperature dropped. I really could have used these tips before I stated planning my travel wardrobe, because my suitcase was nearly bursting at seams! 😆

I have a pair of black patent Derbies too. I got them in Austria last winter - near Vienna, in one of the many luxurious outlets they have there. It's great to see how good this shoe looks on someone else. For packing, I tend to count days and work out how many days I'll get out of a garment in relation to what I'll be doing, but I love variety and end up missing my clothes when I am away for a prolonged period.
