The convertable items are great! I do still love my silk underclothing for cold weather layering. They hardly take up any space at all. LL Bean and Lands' End both have a range of sizes and styles. They work great, especially for those who are sensitive to wool, like me.

Some fantastic tips as usual Eunice. Living in Canada, I have to dress rather differently for winter travel (or for winter in general). I pack 2 silk long underwear tops (wash one out every night so the day's one is always fresh) and one silk long undie bottom, a merino wool base layer over the silks, and then the day's clothes. Here in the north, we know that merino wool over silk keeps us warm on cold winter days. It means the only things I really have to wash out daily are the silk top, socks, and smalls. Since the "real" clothes don't really get dirty, I can get away with very little. I seldom need a dress for winter travel, but when I did, I had 2 from Vermont Country Store that were double sided, the kind of simple, modest, warm winter dresses we need here in the north. I'd generally take one when I travelled which gave me completely different looks.

I stayed up late to watch this lol, as your videos are always fun and informative. You have such style! You're a great inspiration... I live in a cold climate, and wear layers all fall and winter. Wool& has lots of merino wool items, which I actually wear year round. Merino can keep you cool in the summer too! I also have some reversible and summer skirts that I wear over tights and leggings, as they are great wardrobe extenders. When I'm going to be outside a long time (like the Denver Christmas markets last year) I'll use electric hand warmers. Life savers for a cold person like me! And they double as a portable charger! Thanks Eunice!

Along the lines of the neck tube, I plan on using my Osprey 24x18 dry bag for my upcoming trip to Sweden so I can stuff my thick down jacket in it during the flight to use as a pillow. (The thick jacket is necessary since I'm going to far northern Sweden.) The bag weighs next to nothing and takes up very little space when not in use. The bag also works as a hamper that I can hang inside a closet or hook when the attached buckles are closed for dirty clothes. Enjoying your channel! Thanks for all the tips! From a fellow haafu.

I've been assessing my wardrobe and I have used during our brief winters here something I've had for about 18 years...a maroon jacket with a detachable hood, a bit of cinched waist, deep zippered pockets AND...a ZIP OUT LINING! It's warm and great against winds and repels water and perfect for layering. Back in the 80's I had a big trenchcoat also with a zip out lining and I lived in London during the winter and I didn't need any "puffer" jacket. I stood outdoors at Underground crossings in the raw wind...just with my layers. And, leg warmers work fine...no need for leggings. They are easily put on or taken off as needed.

We must’ve grown up in the same area because I remember those trenchcoats with the zip in linings. They were great, because if it was in the warmer month, you could take it out and in the cold months it was great to keep you warm.. thanks for sharing and bringing back those memories😊

@@TheoryofSimple LOL, we are the same era! And this long trenchcoat also kept the winds off my legs! I was looking on line for lined coats and saw vintage but not much else. The closet things are ski type jackets with inner shell jackets that you can use separately, but that's really not the same thing. Sadly, I let go of that trench because I lost weight and height and I was HUGE!!! LOL UPDATE: The coat I have is by "GALLERY and the brand is still around, in plus sizes at Nordstrom ...similiar? But about 10 times what I paid years ago at Ross!

We're going to Palm.Springs from New Jersey the first 2 weeks of January. Never been before. I'm trying to use your hacks and ideas to choose my clothes. I got a great multi pocket safari type vest from Eddie Bauer as 1 layer. Each outfit I wear daily I try to determine if it will work for the swing in Temps it sounds like the desert has from day to night. It's a puzzle! Maybe those merino leggings might be a piece worth considering.
@TheoryofSimple
@TheoryofSimple 10 ай бұрын
The marina wool leggings will work anytime of the year and I would definitely get a pair so that you can lay them under some thinner skirts when you go out at night. It might be warm enough during the day to go without them but this way you can keep warm because the desert does get very chilly at night.💕😊

Not an ideal watch for a vegan! Merino wool is extremely cruel, the way it’s produced. Then there were down jackets, and when baby alpaca turned up I gave up, I’m afraid. No, I don’t use sweaty synthetic materials, just as I don’t use staticky plastic combs. I learned from a northern Swedish vegan that fairtrade, organic cotton is the most ethical, and can make perfect warm padding and scarves, etc. it’s very hard to find over here though! Anyway, Merry Christmas. Xxx
@TheoryofSimple
@TheoryofSimple 10 ай бұрын
Definitely not a video for vegans and I am always looking for items that can replace the natural fabrics like down and wool. Some have mentioned silk. Organic cotton is comfortable. However, I was a ranger in the US for service for a while and our motto there is cotton kills.. because once cotton gets wet, it takes a while to dry and wick away heat from the body. But also catches fire or as things like wool dry quickly and also do not burn like cotton. Regarding down, it can be replaced by things like synthetics however, they are plastic and not good for the environment and if you replace them with things like cotton batting, they don’t become very packable.
