@@wylde39 yeah, if you have fins permanently attached to your board you’ll need to roll/fold from the nose of the board. Are you having issues? If you don’t already I recommend rolling your board around the pump.

I've always had kayaks, so I never had to worry about this, but finally got the wife into water sports and I felt this was the best way to do it... also, we are able to bring the dogos so this makes it fun for all of us. This definitely helped me better figuring out the best way to pack and store. Thanks for the awesome vid!

I just got an Atoll 9' board! Will try to get out next weekend to try it out. I ended up having to do more of a fold technique from the tail end because of the permanent fins. I was able to put the pump in the middle though!
@PaddleAdventurer
@PaddleAdventurer 3 ай бұрын
I'm glad the video was helpful! I don't own any boards with permanent fins but from helping others I find its easier to roll from the nose and leave the fins to the end. If you fold from the fins to the nose you might create marks on your deck pad. Test a few different ways to see what works for you and your new board (congratulations!) Let me know how it goes.
@Sam-rk6lq
@Sam-rk6lq 3 ай бұрын
Ah, that's right. I forgot that part of your video. I checked it and there was a tiny indentation mark on the deck pad. The permanent fins sit in front of the removable fin box, so seams included it's about a 2 foot distance with maybe a half inch between the fin seams. I was able to roll from the nose and then kind of reverse fold from the tail, so it kind of looks like a palmier cookie from the cross section haha It's a little bulkier this way but still fits in the bag and looks like it's avoiding creases on the fin seams, sharp bends, and fins poking the deck pad. We'll see, might have to go back to the other way and make some foam pads to put between the fins and deck pad. Thanks!
@PaddleAdventurer
@PaddleAdventurer 3 ай бұрын
Glad you found something that works for you 👏🏼 Good idea with foam pads! Boards are also easier to roll/fold when they are warm so try to see if you can get a tighter roll on a hot day.

Well I mostly fold my boards simply because they came folded and kinda move back into their folded state on their own. So I kept this folding pattern. This is also saving a lot of space which is very very important to me as I have to pack up to 4 boards + gear and Family in the car. I did the rolling method with my new boards, they have a split fin box which makes rolling much easier. But honestly, even when rolled, the result still looks more like folded because I never put the pump inside and so the boards again tend to move back to their initial folded form ;-) If you ask why I'm not putting the pump inside, well simple reason, I don't need 4 pumps and they take away a lot of space. So I always pack the boards without the pump and all the stuff, everything else I need is stored in a box that I can just pick up and go. I usually have one electric pump + one manual pump with me, so I can inflate one board with the electric while I use the manual pump to inflate the others meantime. With 4 boards, this saves some time and some of my energy. Somtimes my older son also helps with pumping so we can get on the water quicker because there's a lot of preperation to do besides pumping.

Love your energy! We just got an iSUP... My kids have caught the paddle board bug! Quick Question.. if I'm going to a local lake daily, can I just deflate a little bit to fold and fit in our minivan? Or will that damage the board?
@PaddleAdventurer
@PaddleAdventurer 3 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and for the kind comment! Welcome to paddle boarding. I'm so glad you and your kids are out having fun! Yup, you'll be fine doing that. It doesn't have to be perfect every time. But I would caution against being too rough with it, especially if it's a lower-quality board. My friend had a lower quality board she bought on Amazon and got a hole in the side where it was always folded - it could have been from dragging it or wear and tear on that section. I hope that helps. Have a safe and great time out on the water!

Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm glad the video was helpful! Yes however make sure its 100% clean and dry, away from direct sunlight and any critters. And if you're going to store it in the bag leave the zipper open a bit for airflow just in case there is still moisture. Check out my other two videos for cleaning your board and storage (focused on the end of season but still relevant for any time of year) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJa7dquort2VpdUsi=ER6zLYeBhtaJf65J kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4bUpWSced2SfNEsi=yiDa_kyhKzOLqm4u

How long do you think a well maintained Red Paddle Boards lasts up to? My oldest RPC board is about 5 years and it’s still fresh as mint. Hope to make the 10 years mark because they are such a huge price tag.
@PaddleAdventurer

Great question! I think you'll get over 10 years out of the board if it's well cared for. I've seen Red rental boards that are upwards of 10 years old and they obviously have heavy use.

I love your videos. Im just starting out, how would you recommend rolling/folding when the valve and fin boxes are at opposite ends ? I always seem to get some sort of indentation on the pad and creases seem quite tight
@PaddleAdventurer
@PaddleAdventurer 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind words and question! In that situation, personally I’d roll the board from the valve to the fin box. Roll or pump out as much air as possible before doing this. I think it’s much easier to leave the fins/fin box until the end. I’d also recommend rolling the board around your pump to help with any creases. Keep in mind rolling your board in warmer weather is also easier because the PVC is soft. It’s important to try what works best for you and your board. I don’t have a board with the valve and the fin box on opposite end and every board is different. Let me know how it goes!
@katiehannam7852
@katiehannam7852 5 ай бұрын
Thank you for the advice, I gave it a go rolling round the pump, it is a little bit better crease wise but the fin box cause a bit of an issue, I've just had to fold up the fin box end so there's no tension on the seams then roll the rest down from the valve end. So I've got 2 folds going into each other near the end but it's better than before. Sorry for the poor explanation 😂😂 juat want to make sure I'm not damaging it hahaha. Thank you again

lol I think some paddle board bags are smaller and tighter than others. Do you have an electrical pump? These help fully deflate as much air out of the board as possible. What type of board do you have?

Do you have any idea how to do this with a bluefin cruise 12'? I have 3 fin boxes and they are too close together to fold without strain on a fin box. But leaving all 3 unfolded its way too wide to fit into the bag.. also no matter how I roll or fold it its creased/strained on the paddle board. Thos is ky first board ever and ive only had it 2 days. Thank you!

Sounds frustrating! I don't have experience with this board and model. Have you tried to duck the tail in at the end of the roll? Try rolling or folding a few ways on a warm day when the PVC is more malleable. Let me know how it goes!

Keep trying different methods to find out what works best for your board and bag. If you have an electric pump us it to remove as much air as possible. If you're still having problems I'd suggest reaching out to your board's manufacture.
