I'm a boardgame collector (have nearly 200), and this was an easy buy. I own the 1982 version of Pac-Man as well. I agree they did a PHENOMENAL job on this game. It definitely needs more love and visibility than it is currently getting, and I'd love for the publisher to tackle other arcade classics like maybe Q-Bert. There is definitely a bit of wonkiness with some of the mechanics, but overall it's a wonderfully faithful game. My only nitpicks -- 1. I'd love it if they included four blue "scared" ghosts, with unique color markings -- like maybe red eyes and mouth for Blinky -- for when Pac-Man eats a pellet. Even if it was just a mail-in add-on, it would really complete the game. 2. Standard rules can be pretty unforgiving. This should only be played with the arcade variant. 3. Likely no one will survive past orange, but it would have been fun to have tokens for all the fruit. Overall, this is the best adaptation of a video game to board game I have ever seen, outside of Gears of War.

😯 Oh my goodness I remember that, I had one of those Pac-Man board games back when I was like 4 years old and that's going back to probably 1983 I am now 47 years old. You are right and I agree with you, it seems like they are remaking all these old classic games. I just picked up a game called Parcheesi and that's not the original board game they remade that. Instead of the pieces being wood their plastic, also the dice are a lot smaller than bigger than they were back in the 1980s and the Parcheesi board is a lot smaller than it use to be. The Parcheesi board game itself use to be big. I had seen a lot of the old classic board games being remade into new smaller boards in that. It's a shame. But anyway I loved that Pac-Man game from the 1980s it may not have been all that great but it was something and I enjoyed playing it. Awesome video, awesome review and please keep up the great work.

Resetting it between round when playing with your friends isn't all that time-consuming, you can split the board and give each to a friend so each one gets 1-2 parts of the board to reset.

I asked for this board game because of your review. I got it as an early Christmas present last night and I'm definitely impressed, and really enjoying it. Thanks a lot for the awesome review! It's worth getting this game just for the quality alone. Maybe it's just because I stick with cheapo ones, but I've bought a fair amount of monopoly, life, sorry, checkers, etc. board games through the years and they all seem way cheaper than they were in the 90s. This board game isn't nostalgic just because of the theme, but also because of the quality of all the pieces and stuff. Even the cardboard cutout ones are double sided and sturdy. The one disappointing thing is that there isn't more sounds. How cool would it be if there was a little piece in the board that you pushed to play that intro tune before rounds and stuff. I could always play it on my phone I guess.

I love weird questions, Johnny! You're going down an interesting path, but the tokens are made of pretty heavy cardboard and are slightly smaller than a typical arcade button. Great review. I received mine this morning imported from the Estates (couldn't find it in any european online shop). The shipping was a bit high, but the game itself was quite cheap, so it kinda compensate. I fell in love with this game since the first time I saw it, and I have to tell you that your review helped me to decide to buy it. I have the 80s Milton Bradley version, which I like despite its limitations (I had it as a kid too, so nostalgia factor as well). Anyway, I like the content of your channel so I subscribed. Hey, Jay. Like the video game that inspired it, that depends on how long you live before a ghost catches you! 😆 In my experience, a player's turn takes maybe 10 minutes -- 15 if you do well and make it to the second round. Once you hit round 2 and the gold-framed cards come into play for the ghosts, you're not going to live very much longer.

That's a good point, Jonathan. The ghosts in the original arcade do have general behaviors as well as scanner/chase modes and you could try to replicate those. it has great presentation although the game piece for pac-man are the discontinued pac-man keychains with sound but has a platform attached while the ghosts look like carbon copies of the pac-man ghost stress ball which makes them all feel like third-party placeholders. this product is a mixed bag of lazy and cheap

If not the same mold, it does sound like the same voice box (or at the very least, sample). None of these recycled assets took away from my enjoyment, though.
