I imagine the pegs would be better/faster than the marbles from the 80’s version. But it was cool chomping marbles with a big plastic PacMan

Imagine Chris‘s daughter watching this video in 18 years and realizing that she made her daddy miserable by making him play Pac Man. But daddy, I thought you wanted me to play board games :_( (Said respectfully of course)

I remember having a Pacman boardgame as a wee lad in the eighties. It was four Pacmans (Pacmen?); one yellow of course and also, one blue, one red and one green. The Pacmen were plastic and had jaws and hollow interiors to gobble up yellow marbles (and white marbles to be able to munch the ghosts).

This is quite bluntly a teched up version of the Pac-Man board game I was given in 1983 for Xmas instead of an Atari console. It was marbles instead of pegs, but not working. Ugh

I think I still have that thing in storage. The ghosts are really narrow and just 2 of them and the same color I think?

@@IronSalamander8 I don't quite remember that but I do remember that the pac-man barely worked at piching up the marbles and the anger we all felt at it not working. That and the flimsy punched board that the marbles were supposed to stay in.

Chris, this is way off topic (except for the fact that we played way too much of that '80s Pacman board game through the long Midwestern winters), but are you a fan of the comedian, podcast host, and (self-proclaimed) minor TV celebrity John Hodgman? Since you started appearing on the Dice Tower videos, many of your mannerisms and way of speaking remind me so much of him, and that is simply both observation and compliment. I love your contributions to the group reviews and play-throughs as well as your stand-alone reviews. You are consistently fun, funny, and thoughtful in your work. Apologies for the sidebar, but I am so happy my children are far too old to become enamored with this one. Seems like dad torture. But, of course, I'd play with them if they would have asked. Exhibit: Candyland.

Thanks Paul! Always appreciate people sharing some kind words. I had not heard of him by name, I think the only thing I'm familiar with him from is the PC vs Mac commercials (and I always did sympathize with him as a PC user, haha)

I had a version of this game in the 80s. It was a a straight up roll and move. Had Ms. Pac-Man, Frogger, and Donkey Kong too.

We had the marble version from the 80s. I don't remember how the ghosts moved, I think that might have been different. I remember having fun with that as a kid, but I liked all our boardgames as a kid no matter how horrible they were (like that escape the death star game that was a pretty awful roll and move)

I was hoping the pac man would jump to the other side of the screen in the intro 🤣

Lol I have one friend where we play this game whenever we can, and him and I only play this as a two player game, and make it super competitive lol. Agree cannot imagine it beyond 2. But it's more for the nostalgia from playing to classic arcade game when we were kids lol. Granted we only hang out a few times a year so, it never really gets old lol.

I think 3 players would also work well. 1 player is Pac-Man 1 player is Inky and Blinky (or others) 1 player is Pinky and Clyde (or others)

I owned the original pacman board game when I was a kid. The board had white and yellow marbles for the dots for pacman to eat. And pacman would actually eat the pellets! I think the pegs is better than the marbles. Less mess! The game plays basically the exact same way as the old game. Kind of cool to see it again.

Maybe the video skews things, but I 100% could not see any difference between the pegs that were pushed in or pushed out. I imagine that could be an issue.

4:40 - I had the 80’s PAC-Man board game. It was was nothing like this and was very bad. There were 4 PAC-mans in green, red, blue, and yellow that started in the 4 corners of the board and tried to eat the most marbles (dots).

I played the earlier Pacman game and it had marbles that you press the Pacman onto and they end up in his belly.

I didn't even watch the review yet, but I can say I HATE this game! I cannot assemble the board together to save my life. I don't even know why I haven't trashed it yet. I wouldn't even give it away. AFTER WATCHING: I think Chris was way too easy on this game... the production is NOT great... like I said, I cannot assemble the board together as it's manufactured with such sloppy tolerances and/or negative allowances. Several people have tried, but failed.

I liked the original one with the marbles growing up but man were they frustrating! This one is fun too. Good pace. Everyone is interacting so we don't have an issue not being pac-man the entire time.

Got this as a gift (you know, oh you like board games? I'm going to get you this game). So I didn't have high expectations going into the game but it's fun to play with the kids. It's still not a great game as it is as Yi says, a board game version of tag, but the novelty is there :)

Great Video! Unsure about imagining pacman's taste pallette, but I'll roll with it :-) because obviously each ghost tastes diffetently...

kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJ23eoWqmsqaZ6c BGG Game Night. The board is amazing, it uses magnets to hold the pegs up and you lift the underside of the board to reset it all at once; they demonstrate it in the video.

Daughter turned 6 recently. Like I said, she enjoyed this one fairly well, but there's plenty she enjoys as much that I had more fun with. Marvel United and Yummy Yummy Monster Tummy have been big hits for the whole family recently.

Another attempt to cash in my Gen X nostalgia for the great arcade games of yore. The Space Invaders KS was also awful.
