Never seen your channel before, congrats on the 10k! I appreciate the wise words. It's worth noting, the big attribute of the IB alignment isn't group delay, ... it's the extraordinary sensitivity increase that accompanies the acoustically large back-space. The driver not needing to work against the air spring of a typical backspace, be it sealed, vented, whatever ... that's what elicits the coveted attributes of the IB. Sensitivity I've built/used multiple alignment platforms. I built a quad 18" attic manifold IB for my primary system. It's not without its drawbacks ... each approach possess unique pros and cons. Everything in loudspeaker design, especially subwoofer design, involves tradeoffs. Solid content, much appreciated. Cant wait to check out the other work!

This was so funny and awesome! I've not had any personal experiences with infinite baffle in a vehicle but if it does not play Bass outside, then it's a no from me. I've seen a vehicle with subwoofers on the roof as the infinite baffle setup (they cut a hole in the roof for it to actually work lol). I personally not gonna do that considering having the subs exposed to rain and elements but was very interesting for sure.

key word being FOR (not WITH which is how i read the title) LOL i bought a house needing a shit ton of reno last year that so happens to have the living room right above the garage. during the process i installed two 15's (Dayton Audio DCS380-4) hidden in the floor upfiring through air conditioning vents, backfiring into the garage. some of the best sounding bass i've heard for sure - smooth with no peaks/dips, 'fast', quite deep and the biggest benefit is that you can hardly hear it from the outside since what little escapes from the front and back wave basically cancels out. oh yeah, and nobody knows where the subs are lol

Gosh darnit, I love KZbin so freaking much! Just a man, a shed, a phone and a brain that is thinking of stuff that for some reason, men's brains do... Why is that BTW? Why do we dig us down in holes just because the earth is filled with numbers and stuff? I know the reason... in the end it gives us a reason to buy STUFF, and we need something to do. Each weekend needs to be filled with work. Work that we want to do! :) GJ, keep it going! :)

Wow! This channel is getting more and more amazing! While group delay is a thing as long as it's flat it's curver is flat it can be corrected with delaying the other speakers. Even if not flat with a more advanced DSP it can be flattened. A 15 in essentially a sealed box doing that is crazy! And my god i had that same reaction when i first played something seriously DEEP on my 8inch Tapped Horn that's tuned to 15hz. It's louder than the Ported 15 that was also tuned to 15hz that i had before which is absolutely wicked! I will absolutely help out buddy out a bit! Bass homies gotta take care of each other!

One of my early builds was 4 8” subs in an infinite baffle set up on the rear deck of my large pontiac coupe. Wired into one channel the sound was amazing to my young ears and the sight of four drivers moving in unison was impressive at the time. As you noted , a downside to the set up was unchecked cone travel so the subs lasted about 6 months before the suspension got too loose and they had to replaced. I went through three sets of subs before I changed setups. Donation made for your friend’s family, best wishes for his recovery.

Gotta get a sub more suited for IB. High Qts is one of the metrics you should look for. Or check for my other comment that'll lead you to a video where a guy explains it in depth. Of course, if you just want a sub recommendation, Fi IB315 is the ticket. In a sedan you can do two of them in a trunk baffle, and as long as you have a decently strong roll-off in your tuning below 20hz, you can run each one on 700w RMS (rated 600) and they won't stroke out like your worried about. They don't even go above Xmax (which is not the same as the full mechanical limit) until 20hz on 700w, and that's true IB, not a 4x VAS or 10x VAS trunk baffle setup. At 600w rated RMS they don't hit Xmax until 10-15hz IIRC, so there's plenty of room to play with. Even more so if you set your lowest desired frequency higher (IE 25-30hz for the start of the roll-off) and/or have a particularly strong infrasonic roll-off like -18dB/octave or more.

I've done this in two different cars over the years, the effect is startling, even with a cheap 30 dollar Jensen woofer. Just had to be careful with power. I always recommend it, nearly built one for my living room. but SVS made for a cheaper alternative with similar results. Also the "no noise outside" was an effect we noticed for both cars. Keeps the bass in where you need it.

Infinite volume sealed box for the win. Open WinISD and model that. It's basically what is happening here. Then model the same woofer in a 3 cubic foot sealed box and apply the Linkwitz filter to boost the bass response down to the free air resonance of the woofer. You will have the exact same response. The same maximum SPL. It takes very little power to move the woofer at low frequencies. The woofer output is limited by its Xmax at low frequencies.

I played a bit with speakers myself, and one thing i found easy to do trying to lower the frequency of a speaker was add a bit of weight to the cone, right on top of the coil so it will slow down the movement of the membrane. Another thing that helps is adding another magnet on top of the existing one. It may sound crazy, but trust me you can turn a bass into a sub if you do both. Hope to get you to at least a few million subs you are hilarious cheers.

Hatchback cars of the 70s and 80s were great as you could make a board to cover the hatch area and put some cheap speakers in it for a kid on a small budget this worked very well. Also pvc pipe works I would cut a small section about the same length as the speakers was wide and just leave the back side of the tube open.

Infinite baffle and offset transmission lines are my favorite. When paired with a nice amplifier, the drums sound more realistic and have a tight snap that will make your eyes blink.
@cajampa4 ай бұрын
What does offset transmission lines means in this context?
@svojon4 ай бұрын
@@cajampa Exactly what he shows in this video. He didn't mount the driver near the start of the line. It was mounted around 1/3rd from the starting point. Doing so helps reduce the midrange ripple. You can test this yourself by measuring the impedance curve and comparing the results.
@cajampa4 ай бұрын
@@svojon Thanks, but wow. I have no idea what you are talking about man. Sorry to tell you. I am not well versed in building subs and I can not parse what you are telling me. Are you talking about the mounting position somehow....was is the line and what is the starting point?
@svojon4 ай бұрын
@@cajampa I'll try to keep it simple. Think of a TL as a simple straight pipe. The starting area is the side of the pipe that's sealed off. The ending area is the opposite side that's open. Normally the speaker is mounted near the starting area. The offset design has the speaker mounted around 1/3 or more away from the starting area.
@cajampa4 ай бұрын
@@svojon ok. If I get you right. You mean to mount the speaker 1/3 inside the area. But he did not do that. He mounted it right at the edge of the open area. And in between the the spaces right at the area that those spaces meet. Sorry I still have no idea what you mean. He placed the speaker in an open baffle in the wall between the room and the outside. Back in my day I had an 81 cutlass supreme and we all know how good they are for reverb-aka hollow😅 I built a 3/8 chip board box that was probably 12 cubic feet but I ran out of plywood so there was a 3.5 in open air gap across the bottom of the box. I filled it with poly fill and I ran two 10’s and a Rockford fosgate punch 100 amp. The Sony head unit was like 60 amp per channel and I had two three ways in the “luggage tray” and four ways in the dash and I swear to bob that was the best sounding set up I’ve ever had!!!!!!!! I sold the car and haven’t beeen able to duplicate since!! Those cars with “ported” boxes are AWESOME! They’re almost, well akin to infinite as you talk because they’re true unibody and the only thing separating the trunk from the cabin is a weird hard foam type stuff of the rear seat backs! That car is in my bucket list btw😅

Years ago, I picked up a pair of infinite baffle subs not realising what they were… stuck em in a box in my car & wasn’t impressed… dug into why they were meh & discovered what infinite baffle was… Made up a mounting board to mount them directly to the car behind the back seats, effectively making the entire boot/trunk the box (as close as I was going to get to true infinite baffle inside the car). Wow what a difference it made.
