Hi Darren, I have been using this stuff for a while now and use it when I want a subtle bit of flash on the fly. As you point out, you need to use a soft-touch when handling it but I think it is an excellent value for the money. I tied a couple of "blood worms" similar to this Glitter Chromie but build them a bit differently to get a thin translucent body - after the gills and bead I tied in the red glitter (body) and the silver glitter (rib) at the thorax and used the red glitter to tie the silver to the bare hook all the way to the hook bend before winding back to the thorax; then applied/set a thin coat of BoneDry before winding the silver glitter rib; then top coat the body with clear laquer (HH) and dubbing the thorax to finish up. Looks pretty good. I have also picked up some 1/8 inch diameter mylar braid (multi-color pack); monofilament thread and several yarns that I found at the Dollar Store. They have some good stuff for tying - make a point of cruising the isles whenever I can.

Hank, I love browsing the aisles of Dollarama, but I had never seen this in any of the stores near me. I'll have a closer look next time. I tied some bloodworms as well and like you say, it's perfect for that. I'll have to make a trip back to the $ store soon to see if any of the Christmas stuff will tie. Cheers

@@PiscatorFlies Did you see the Shenk's Minnow (Tightlines Video) that was featured recently? Great pattern, been using them for years but they take quite a bit of time to tie with rabbit fur (then a pike steals it on the first cast!). Tim tied one using a 1/2" diameter "chenille- like" yarn he got from the $ store - I checked and found a skein of white - 27 yards for $4!!! Let me know of you want some - I have way more than I need! Cheers!

Happy New Year Hank Vana2020! Check out Joe Cornwall tying (McElligot's) "Shannon's Fly". He uses that same yarn, Patten's Velvet Chenille, to tie an extended body around some marabou for the tail. Pretty cool bass pattern and right up your alley. He coats the head with some sort of silicone to give it neutral buoyancy too.

@@hankvana2149 I didn't get a chance to see Shenk's Minnow, I'll add it to my play later list though. You did send me some chenille in chartreuse, orange and mottled brown, is that the same? I'll let you know if I can't find any. Cheers

Very nice fly! We don't have a Dollarama in my area but will keep a look out for something similar. I know that they make somthing similar in embroidery thread that can be found in Joannes fabric store and if your lucky enough to get the wife's 70% off coupon all the better!

Thanks for stopping in, Steve. I'm not sure if the stores like Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and Dollarama are connected in any way, but hopefully, you find something cool to tie with. Cheers and Keep a hook in your vise!

Oholi, thanks for stopping in. Do you fish any lakes or ponds? If you do, I would urge you to give some chironomids a try. I've fished them in the rivers as well, but fast low rivers they are not ideal. Deep slow rivers and still water, these will work like magic once you get the depth dialed in. Cheers!

Hey Darren! I got a sign you were gonna post a chromie video today cuz I found a black midge adult on my back porch today :o) 3 or 4 mm long, skinny segmented abdomen, thicker thorax, longish legs and blackish purple iridescent wings. The abdomen angled down from the thorax so it would meet the legs on a horizontal plane. Maybe it hatched, we've had mild weather lately, almost 50F today. Anyway nice fly and materials. That thread hasn't migrated south yet to my $ $tore ;o). Good luck at your Dollarama, have a great 2020, cheers!

Chimo Joe, it's insane just how warm its been for the past month or so. I've been seeing things hatch all over. I had a mayfly on my back window a couple weeks back, a nice little BWO. A couple winter stoneflies in size 28's. Lots of temps in the mid-forties (about 6-8 Celcius) and I just got a new snowblower :( lol. If I find some of the threads, I'll stock up and give some away in the draw packs. Cheers

@@PiscatorFlies Awesome, more goodies! Yeah but the weather party is about to end. Temps are dropping and today's cold rain just turned to big clumps of snow - looks like wet cotton balls. Temps are mid 30's now so it shouldn't stick. New snowblower eh, I just had all my equipment overhauled by a good friend. Riding lawn tractor, self propelled Dr brush mower, small walk behind mower, and my Ariens snowblower that has to be 40 years old. Still works great! I think I only used it once this season. Good luck with your new toy :o) Cheers
