Padding the Corinthian Helmet

In this video, I pad my bronze Corinthian helmet. Well........to be more accurate, I don't pad it but rather build a suspension harness to perform the same function. The ancients typically would glue felt into the inside of the helmet. Because I wanted to reduce sweat and general discomfort due to heat, I chose the suspension method instead. I don't intend to ever use this helmet in combat, so the added security of the glued-in felt is unnecessary. Quite simply, a harness of leather is fashioned, laced together and then riveted to the inside of the helmet.

I am currently in the planning stage of making one of these for a university project. Mine will be cast, as I lack your amazing skills in Repoussé and shaping. There are some really interesting ideas on how Corinthian (and bronze helmets as a whole) were made. Some could have been raised, others like the Pilos spun, and some show distinct signs of being cast. I was inspired to start this project when I first saw your original video making the helmet and just wanted to thank you enormously for the inspiration.

I'll bet that leather suspension liner is WAY more comfortable than the plain felt or even foam padding. Good compromise. You don't have to be as uncomfortable as our ancestors to look just as badass!

Looks beautiful, I love it! I'd say the new eyeholes look a bit better, you don't want them *too* open. From what I've seen of other similar helmets, the eyeholes are actually pretty small. Looks like it first perfectly! Cool to see it on your head properly, really gives you more of an idea of how it's suppose to sit.

Wow man i really enjoyed this! , i just started to make a complete north western bronze Age warrior outfit. I got a smeltoven for a bronze sword and in time i also want to make a helmet and a harnas..the sword is coming to complete very soon.great video and what a nice piece of work 👍 love it!

The crest does indeed look a tiny little overdone bulky and heavy. Yet not bad. The narrower eyes are cool. I guess if they be still providing a good sight with the more facial protection, that´s a good thing.

When you do eventually get to making the spear and sword I think you should look to assassins creed odyssey for inspiration ,they have sooooo many badass designs to chose from and quite a few are historically accurate

I love the og corinthian helmet style but I prefer to make the face and neck sections either blend smoothly or have a overlap seam line with the cap bc if it dont then it just looks like a wang
