Great to see this video! I come from Dunoon on the Clyde, so see the Waverly on a regular basis. She has been cruising locally all summer. 60 years ago my first trip was to Millport!

Glad you enjoyed the video. Rather different scenery than the Clyde 60 years ago, no doubt!

I rode one of the Steamers from Danoon to Glasgow in the 80's, and will never forget the thrill!

Used to travel on the Waverley every year with my Grandfather. Up the firth of clyde. Ardrossan- Milport- Largs. Then up loch striven.

She no longer calls at Ardrossan, and the town pier in Millport is now closed but she does call at the Keppel Pier (for Millport).

I used to go down to the Engine room where there was a special gallery where one could watch the paddles working
@bayardmachineshop37233 жыл бұрын
You can see that view of the paddles working in the video at 09:59.

@@bayardmachineshop3723I used to watch the paddles working whenever I went on the Waverley it was a must for me I Love ships as it is in my blood as my mothers grand father was a seaman on the sister ship of the Titanic. The Olympic and one of my mothers brothers was a able seaman on the Destroyer H.M.S. ISIS DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAY. SO THE SEA IS IN MY BLOOD SO TO SPEAK

Wasn’t the Waverley once one of the White Funnel Steamer fleet operating in the Bristol Channel making day trips from Bristol to Ilfracombe, Lundy, Newport etc?
@bayardmachineshop37232 жыл бұрын
No, built by the LNER to work on the Firth of Clyde, on the west coast of Scotland.

Last time I was on the waverly it had to make a full to starboard turn and it hardly even leant over. All because of a stupid nuclear submarine. Whats best is the window that looks into the paddle. Really, its like:= 👁👄👁

On Choppy seas the paddle steamer rolled about quite a bit

I Agree whole Heartedly not for choppy or rough sea most definitely not as I can vouch for it but luckily I do not suffer from sea sickness as I have sailed on Car Ferries between Dover- Ostend Dover-calais Ramsgate- Dunkirk and on the hover craft quite a few times and also on the Catamaran carrying cars between Dover- calais
