Great stuff Luke! The tip about using your rope to hold the paddle is GOLD! Wish you had taught me that earlier...

I've been thinking of upgrading my fishing kayak, but I've also been wanting a SUP. This looks like a great option.

That rope for the paddle is genius

+adventureteen_15 Thanks for making time to leave the nice comment! That rope certainly has helped me make paddleboard fishing more effective (plus I use it when poling my boat to hold the push pole so I can easily fish from up there).

+Salt Strong No problem! I've been looking for a sup for awhile to fish from and this video was awesome. And the rope for the pole when polling is also a great tip!

just save up the little extra money for an angler board... worth it for the balance and the ability to not have to wade out... all your gear with you including some that have storage AND a cooler area with bungees...

I keep coming back to this video. Great tips. Question. If you are in a current or windy day and you spot a fish and want to stop the board to cast at the fish any tips on how to anchor yourself in one position pick up a rod and cast without loosing sight of the fish? Thx
@Saltstrong9 жыл бұрын
+JLC JLC That is the magic question... I have had the best luck with having the rope with a loop in it right on my hip with my rod always behind me in the same spot. This way, I can do a reverse paddle, set the paddle on my board with it in the loop, and then reach behind to grab my rod without having to take my eye off of the fish except for placing my paddle on the board quietly.

Is that the 19qt Engle?
@sevenrats8 жыл бұрын
That board is a little bit too small. You clearly have excellent balance. Most people would struggle with that. I mounted my cooler right behind my standing position and use it as a seat and storage. Sitting while unhooking or rigging is much easier.
@Saltstrong8 жыл бұрын
Yes, this paddle board is not good for fishing since it's so small. I only can do it after years of using it for surfing so my legs now automatically stabilize me when fishing (sitting down on a cooler is not possible on this board). For selecting paddle board types, we made this separate post which explains pros and cons of the 3 core types of paddle boards: www.saltstrong.com/articles/best-paddle-board-fishing/
@sevenrats8 жыл бұрын
I have a 12 foot Oxbow all around and it works good for me. I can sit on the cooler. I would think though because I also surf and have good balance, this board probably would not work for everyone. I have no problems with it though. The sitting on the cooler is a huge advantage.

do you think it's OK to fish with Inflatable SUP? probability of damaging the SUP by fish?
@Saltstrong9 жыл бұрын
+ESKEEMO02 02 I've never tied an inflatable paddle board, but I imagine that it would be ok because most fish would have a hard time poking through a thick plastic... catfish would be the one to really be careful with because they have 3 very sharp spines that are extremely sharp.

What paddle board do you have? Also, how did you get it? I've tried contacting rental places to see if they would sell me an old model, but haven't had any luck. Trying to get into paddle board fishing without blowing a bunch of money. Thanks
@Saltstrong8 жыл бұрын
+NoahPurdue2020 Sorry for taking so long to respond... I somehow missed this when it came in. I got my first paddle board from a guy in Cocoa Beach who offers paddle boarding tours... I saw his ad in Craigs List and reached out to him for details. Brought cash with me and offered what I believed was a fair price, and he fortunately agreed (I've had a ton of fun paddle board fishing from this board even though it is not made for fishing).

Thinking of going to a smaller, lighter board. Your board here is 10' 3"? My current board is 13'6" and is heavy. Thinking of something like the BOTE 10'6" HD. I am 6 ' tall and 210 lbs. It would just make life easier. Load easier, much lighter, etc. Think I would miss the longer board in your opinion?
@Saltstrong7 жыл бұрын
It all depends on how long you'll be staying out on the water for and the amount of equipment you plan to use. I now have a 12'6" L2Fish board and use that much more than this small one because the smaller one is extremely tiring to fish from because it's very unstable (due to being just 28.5 inches wide). When I do take the small one out, it's just for a quick trip or one that I plan on mostly wade fishing where I use the board just to get from one spot to another. My recommendation would be to find a shop that allows you to demo a board, and take a cooler packed with drinks/ice so you can feel how its stability will be when you're all loaded up with gear.
@jawjuh10059 жыл бұрын
Sorry one more question. Do you ever feel the need to tie the cooler to the board?
@Saltstrong9 жыл бұрын
+JLC JLC I personally don't see a need for tying the cooler down unless you plan to go through breaking waves or it's really rough out. On flat water, I've never had any issues with the cooler falling over. But it of course wouldn't hurt to tie it down because the rod could technically fall out and be lost if the cooler did fall over into the water.

It’s a surfboard ? Really interested in getting a paddle board but if I can get a surfboard for cheaper and it works then hell why not ?
@neildrummond57115 жыл бұрын
That is not a surfboard. Its a paddle board for surfing. Surfboards have less volume in them so you can only stand on them when riding a wave

It is a Starboard. This is an old model that was designed for surfing. I do not recommend it for fishing given how unstable it is. Here's an article the talks about the pros and cons of the different board styles: www.saltstrong.com/articles/best-paddle-board-fishing/
