In part 3 of Paddling Paradise, we wake up to a bright, flat calm morning, another dreamy day in canoe country. We have one mission: catch and cook. We're not looking to catch just any fish, however... come along to find out!

Have you ever had a trip so perfect that you were sure it would never be topped... a trip so perfect you almost don't believe it happened?
Incredible weather, rare beautiful fish, and a wilderness waterfall made this one of my most special trips, and I'm afraid I'll never top it.
Come join us on a surreal, sensibly perfect trip into canoe country.

Yep, popped right out! That whole situation was a little hectic, but it all turned out OK. :)

What type of boot are you using? Looks like it might be a neoprene waterproof paddling boot. How do you like them?

Those are the NRS Boundary Boot, latest version. They are awesome for paddling and I wear them kayak fishing in the spring and fall as well. They aren't as grippy as my Astral Mesh trail runners which I wear when wetfooting, and they don't have any support, so portaging is not great in them especially if you have no choice but to walk on rocks and roots. I do recommend them though; as long as your feet aren't too fussy (or maybe you aren't doing too much portaging) it's really nice to be able to walk in the water for any reason, like fishing or filling up the gravity filter or whatever. You always end up the last person in the canoe because you can stay dry the whole time but that's to be expected. And by dry I mean, the only water touching your legs and feet is your own sweat, of which you'll have a healthy amount when you're in these boots.

Nice video! Next time, keep the female brookies, they have the darker meat and taste better than the big males.

Duly noted! We ate both of them but if I had the option (i.e. we caught a lot and sent the males back) then I'd definitely be OK eating the smaller females.

@@TechnicallyRugged I see, didn't know you kept the female, too. I really love pan frying them with butter, garlic, seasoned or smoked salt and garnish with lemon and fresh dill.

@@therealfarwater I would have loved to use all the good stuff, but we usually don't bring butter... thinkin that needs to change! I definitely want to do it right some day, maybe when I can camp on the lake in question so I can go back to camp and cook 'em up nice, instead of frying them on the portage/landing, lol.

@@TechnicallyRugged Butter keeps just fine, even during the summer. Just make sure you get the salted butter, and it will keep better. Bring it in a tupperware or nalgene accessory jar so if it melts it won't be a problem. Oil is a good substitute, but I feel trout is best enjoyed pan-fried in butter with the skin on, lightly seasoned and garnished with fresh herbs.

@@therealfarwater Appreciate the info! I'm not sure when my next trout opportunity will be but I will definitely bring butter when that time comes. :)
