Paddy Moriarty, the missing man and the meat pie feud EPISODE 3 | A Dog Act

EPISODE 3 Feuds over meat pies and rival tourism ventures swirl around Larrimah. Residents that live within a few blocks don't speak. Hatreds run deep. Is there any link between these disagreements and Paddy Moriarty's disappearance?
Here, 10 residents live within spitting distance of each other on a featureless stretch in Australia's remote outback, 500 kilometres down the Stuart Highway from Darwin.
But almost two years on from the day locals first raised the alarm, the disappearance of Larrimah man Paddy Moriarty, 70, and his kelpie Kellie remains a disturbing mystery.
Despite extensive searches, public appeals and a coronial inquest, police appear no closer to unravelling the truth.
Larrimah - already a dysfunctional tangle of disputes and disagreements - is now in a state of disarray.
Long-time local publican Barry Sharpe has sold his Pink Panther-themed watering hole, along with his large pet saltwater crocodile Sneeky Sam.
Up the highway, the Devonshire tea house advertising scones along with buffalo and camel pies remains open, but proprietor Fran Hodgetts says the last year has taken a devastating toll on her health and her business.
There are others contemplating a "permanent break".
Two years ago one man and his dog vanished. But almost all of Larrimah, as it exists now, could be swallowed up in the wake.
Police have interviewed every resident. All say they had nothing to do with Paddy's disappearance.
There are persons of interest being investigated outside of Larrimah.
Each resident has their own theory about what may have happened.
Lead investigator Detective Sergeant Matt Allen is treating it as an unsolved homicide.
While he can't completely rule out misadventure he feels compelled to consider the "worst-case scenario."
"Somebody out there knows what happened to Paddy and Kellie," he said.
"It's difficult for people to keep secrets; often they want to tell someone."
Foul play
There are a lot of ways to go missing in the outback.
Larrimah's remaining residents have had plenty of time to mull them over.
"Wild pigs. Dingoes … crocodiles. There's plenty of ways to get rid of a body, isn't there?" mused the oldest local, Len Hodson, 82.
Such disappearances aren't unknown in the NT - the Stuart Highway fairly vibrates with stories of murder and mayhem.
"It's been going on for years where people have just disappeared off the face of the earth and no one's got an explanation for it," said Larrimah man Barry Burke, who goes by the nickname "Cookie."
According to then-bartender Richard Simpson and other witness accounts, the Irish-born pensioner spent the afternoon of December 16, 2017 at the Pink Panther Hotel.
It's estimated Paddy drank about 10 mid-strength beers over a number of sweltering hours, just a couple of cans above his daily average.
As the sun was setting, he fired up his red quad bike and departed, his kelpie riding shotgun.
A few hundred metres from the pub, in his own home, police say evidence confirms Paddy microwaved some leftover chicken for his kelpie and prepared some frozen dim sims for himself.
And then, with no sign of a struggle or suggestion of a planned exit, the man and his red dog were gone.
If there's one thing that unites the estranged residents of this place, it's that they all believe Paddy is dead, most probably killed.
Why are they so convinced there's been foul play?
To understand that, you have to understand Paddy Moriarty.
And you need to understand an isolated spot where emotions run high, feuds run long, and personalities are larger than life.
Until they're not.
And when something goes wrong, it can go wrong on a spectacular scale.
As publican Barry Sharpe puts it: "10 people live in this town; to my way of thinking, one of them's a murderer."

You don't understand DNA or science. At all. There's no reason to test pies, doofus. Do you have any idea how much blood and evidence there would be?! It would require a butcher shop set up for a start .. do you have any idea how messy it is to slaughter a large animal , let alone the evidence, the blood, the witnesses etc would be overwhelming. You can't hide a crime like THAT LOL. It would stink and there would be Soo much meat and Soo many freezes with human and dog meat in it just to preserve it. The evidence would be insanely overwhelming. I don't even think you comprehend what an enormous job it takes to do that (you need skills and strength too, and in this case running expensive large freezers in 45 celcius heat (heat you can't imagine ) and super secret underground workshop and technology to hide blood of a crime , which bleach can't even always remove ) .. and on top of that it would need a motive to even go to all that work. It's more logical that at worst, it was a murder or manslaughter and the body of paddy and his poor dog Kellie, were just left in the desert and eaten by birds of prey and bones bleached by the sun. It would be easy to get rid of bodies out there, easily. And better still, you dont run the risk of being caught with a mutilated body and blood bath in your darn house. So, what do you reckon is more logical? if you wanted to avoid getting caught, which option makes more sense and requires minimal effort (Especially in the heat, which you clearly don't comprehend.. I'm Australian and up north is like hell on earth levels of heat- people die from heat stroke regularly here. you obviously have no idea what the logistics are, aside from the fact Fran is also very daft and no master Mind. She's not Sweeny Todd nor the non-fictional, Herman Mudget HH.Holmes - and this is not an 1800s Victorian city in London or chigaco full of basements and cold storage places and near zero laws, where it's easy to do that stuff. ..nor does she have a basement or the ability to even do anything remotely close to that stupid suggestion. She can't even spell, and she's 76 years old.... Do you know what it takes to carry a body let alone clean it up? That should answer your question as to why police know it's a stupid idea- all I listed is a start, let alone how DNA works , and the costs of that (and you need a body/actual flesh /DNA doofus ,plus you wouldnt even know which pie to test it on.. and as I said it's already obvious there's no human meat in those pies because you don't need DNA to confirm this- it's already obvious that Fran doesn't have the capability, skills nor motive to butcher anyone. They searched the property extensively already which rules the possibility out. So why the heck would they do an expensive, complex DNA test on a random pie?! You wouldn't get anything. My theory is Fran was in Owens ear..He new people in either side towns and Fran offered the money. Paddy was creature of habit ( you could tell by his house everything in its place an tidy for single bloke) Came home in evening parked up at home, hat by the seat bit compromised from few beers. A man looking like him with a hat, new grayishbrownish hat Republic type with a grayish dark costum jacket and blue jinks I saw two days ago Sunday that past in McDonald store in Brooklyn NY, with accompanion a little boy...asking to go to a cemetery,..do you have someone to take care of you the boy ask yes the man says a nieace, no a nephew...strange it stays in my mind and I saw this similarity...if the police check those camera in that McDonald store second floor may identify the man...86st between 4th and 5th ave in Brooklyn, New York, Bay Ridge area...I remember and one thing in the left hand on the pinky finger had two rings one was with flat oval shape on top, and next was a simple circle one holding the first in place because was a little loose on his thin finger...he was looking to go to cemetery even to meet with wife or the wife was buried there it wasn’t so clear what he was saying because he was mumbling and not clear for me to hear why, I think the boy asked him why he was going there and he was getting excuses so the boy can accompany him...on Dec 16,2019 Sunday or Monday one of these days, ...they can check the camera since there looks like they have camera in corner or more...

I think ‘ol Paddy had a heart attack somewhere in the bush. Dogs will sometimes just sit with an owner who’s had a medical event and not leave. Dog probably died from starvation, dehydration or exposure......who knows. There is so much open land, there is no way searchers could cover it all. Paddy and his dogs body were picked apart by scavenger. That or someone killed them both and buried them😂

except helicopters combed the area throughly, and Paddy left his home with the microwave open with takeout chicken in it (given to him by a tourist), wasn't wearing his glasses, and wasn't wearing his hat (that he *always* wore, being a bald man living in the Devils fryingpan). He was lured out of the house. And the people responsible will never pay for it. Maybe they could do some sort of ground radar thing but i doubt the State would want to pay a bunch of money for that. And they could have driven the bodies far out of the area. Buuut I'm gonna guess these lazy fat people didn't expend much effort disposing poor Paddy.
