Hi indi- the practice is called Johar. In old days women (belonging to particular tribe/region) follow Johar. When the husband dies , the wife gives her life away. But for doing that wife has to take approval from husband. And I repeat this practice is not followed by everyone. The bad guy lusts the queen and in the process he kills the king and she chooses Johar. She prefers dying rather than getting captured and spending rest of the life with this fellow.

Only musalmaan invaders were rapists and enslaved , they even raped the dead, natives were mostly respected as per hindu culture
@bluebird-ce8zg4 ай бұрын
This is juhar, as many people have already pointed out. It was done by women to save themselves from the invading army. The important point was that the Rajput/Hindu kings fought with each other all time but jauhr was not done. Then why now? The reason was that these invaders were muslim forces and they were known for their brutality. When Hindu kings fought, it was a war between 2 kings and their armies. Women, children,old and infirm, were not harmed. Against Muslims, they were looters and plunderes. The actor running towards the Queen in Aluddin Khilji, who went to war against the Queen's husband because he was impressed by her beauty and wanted her to join his haram. When she refused, he launched an attack. The king and his army died and women committed suicide. One can ask why they had to burn themselves as it more brutal? Why not just take a poisonous substance? Then the reason is that Islamic armies wanted to convert as many kafirs they could to Islam. They were known for necrophilia and even raped dead bodies and convert them to their religion after death. Therefore, these women perished their bodies. It is horrible, and this is history. I went to Chitorh fort many times and was told this there.

I’ve seen a lot of people calling Jauhar ‘patriarchal’ (looking at you, Swara Bhaskar) but what they fail to realise is that Jauhar was accompanied by Saka. When defeat was imminent, Rajput men charged into battle, for one last time, expecting certain death. Meanwhile, the Rajput women would self immolate to escape from being paraded as sex slaves of invading maniacs. This just shows they placed their values and virtues higher than their lives and I think that’s beautiful ❤️
@msa83703 жыл бұрын
I dont know how was that patriarchal, these women took charge and said 'I value myself as a human being' and refused to be sold into sexual slavery. They held the dignity of being a woman in high regard, they refused to be raped and assaulted. They valued themselves too much to have themselves be treated so brutally so they took charge.

And for that reason, there were only ladies inside the main Fort where rani lived. The soldiers were kept at different places. The fort is so large, that khilji could not reach to rani padmini. /padmavati (her actual name). And when the news arrives that King is dead, she sacrificed her life, burnt herself along with all those 16000 women. This sacrifice is termed jouhar.

Padmini, also known as Padmavati, was a 13th-14th century Rani (queen) of the Mewar kingdom of present-day India. Several medieval texts mention her, although these versions are disparate and many modern historians question the extent of overall authenticity. The Jayasi text describes her story as follows: Padmavati was an exceptionally beautiful princess of the Sinhalese kingdom (in Sri Lanka).[a] Ratan Sen, the Rajput ruler of Chittor Fort, heard about her beauty from a talking parrot named Hiraman. After an adventurous quest, he won her hand in marriage and brought her to Chittor. Ratan Sen was captured and imprisoned by Alauddin Khalji, the Sultan of Delhi. While Ratan Sen was in prison, the king of Kumbhalner Devapal became enamoured with Padmavati's beauty and proposed to marry her. Ratan Sen returned to Chittor and entered into a duel with Devapal, in which both died. Alauddin Khalji laid siege to Chittor to obtain Padmavati. Facing a defeat against Khalji, before Chittor was captured, she and her companions committed Jauhar (self-immolation) thereby defeating Khalji's aim and protecting their honour. Coupled to the Jauhar, the Rajput men died fighting on the battlefield. Many other written and oral tradition versions of her life exist in Hindu and Jain traditions. These versions differ from the Sufi poet Jayasi's version. For example, Rani Padmini's husband Ratan Sen dies fighting the siege of Alauddin Khalji, and thereafter she leads a jauhar. In these versions, she is characterised as a Hindu Rajput queen, who defended her honour against a Muslim invader. Over the years she came to be seen as a historical figure and appeared in several novels, plays, television serials and movies. Jai Bhawani.

Loved your reaction. The villain allaudin khilji killed her husband, the king, in war by deciet. And he was obsessed with possessing the queen who was famous for her beauty and grace and she was his major drive for winning the kingdom as he wanted to possess her. He was unable to and wasn't even allowed to really see her face . So he grew obsessed with having her for himself. So she and the entire women in the kingdom, about almost 16000 in number, performed 'jauhar', the act of self immolation. The piece of clothing she carried had the handprints of her husband and she asked him the permission to die if in case things go wrong. So as soon as she heard that the king was killed, she along with the rest of the women in the kingdom jumped into the fire since they felt that they would die with honour than be mistreated by allaudin khilji and his men. By doing so, it became the cause of his biggest defeat. Also, khilji was a necrophiliac, so he would not have even spared her dead body. So he was defeated beyond words despite his dirty methods of winning the war.

It was performed during the phase of history when the western part of the India was continuously plundered by Islamic invaders. Since, the western India was fragmented into many small kingdoms, therefore, it was impossible for any single one to bear full-fledged defence against them. Besides, small kingdoms also suffered from inner conflicts amoung them. Whenever invader's strength proved far more superior than defender, these acts were performed. Warrrior men used to come out in saffron coloured outfit and fought till death. It was called as SAAKA. While women used close the door of the fort, and self- immolate themselves also known as the act of JAUHAR. Both SAAKA and JAUHAR were performed only when no other option was left and defeat was certain. Both men and women had chose an honourable death than to live the life of a slave . Hope, this piece of information would have helped you.

@Nature Reboot It's historically inaccurate that gauri invaded 16 times he invdated 3 times first gujrat and two times Ajmer. he lost to Bhim Singh II in Gujrat. it was Mahmood Gaznavi who invaded 17 times. History should have multiple verifiable sources. And We all think Jaychand as the one who betrayed but just Try to find who Sanyogita was? Jaychand was cousin of Prathviraj and Sanyogita was daughter of Jaychand so she was his Niece and it was against the religion for Prathviraj to marry his niece . so Jaychand was not happy with him because he took Sanyogita agaist religion.

That were the women of the greatest nation. Power , grit, warriors. No other civilization can boast of women who were all this.

I think it is important, when talking about the history of Johar, that we choose our words carefully. I've seen many praise these women for dying to save their "dignity" which yes, at the time people felt that if a woman was raped she lost her purity/dignity. However, a woman's dignity is not determined by what *other people* force upon her. It is very important we do not imply that if a woman is captured, raped, enslaved, etc., that she had lost her purity or dignity. These women died rather than be tortured and enslaved, yes, and I can't imagine having to make that choice. BUT regardless of if they died or were captured none of them lost their dignity. They were victims of war.

They did not sacrifice thier life to protect themselves. They sacrificed thier life to protect thier soul. Rani padamavati and other women never wanted to be a sex slave of khilji.... Those invader were necrophil as well, they did not even used to spare dead bodies, they were use to of having intercourse with corpse..... Armed war was already won by Khilji by doing misdoing in war. Johar was the only option left to these brave ladies to defeat Khilji. Khilji would have already won the war with out using any arms, if Raja sa would have given Rani sa to him. Rani sa is our pride....Raja sa protected his pride, his valour, his wife, he sacrificed his life while perfectly doing his duty. She did absolutely right by following the same path of her husband. We people are never bothered of losing money but always afraid of losing our family, dignity and respect. When somebody is damn desperate to bring you down by disrespecting you, then we prefer to die rather then being bow down to the enemy.

context nd time bro. this was back in 1400's. a women raped was always blamed. they DID NOT have the privilege that today's women enjoy. these women were extremely proud of themselves. their self respect nd dignity mattered the most to them nd THEIR dignity in turn was propotional to their kingdom as well. nd i honestly support them that rather than being stripped of that samman nd their morals nd live a long hellish life wishing for death everyday nd being tortured, they CHOSE their end with their morality intact. this was their choice. now lets take the case of sati, where widows were burnt alive against their wish. this is wrong nd your concept applies here that being without a man is nothing to be ashamed of nd certainly not something to be burnt for.

That's what our Hinduism is all about, maintaining, securing and keeping our self respect and culture safe so that everyone knows what our people, our women in our Country's history did to make us feel proud today. Not only we humans, You talk about any religion's God, either Jesus Christ, Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva, Allah, Lord Budha, Guru Nanak, every God would have cried with tears in their eyes and love in their hearts when this would have happened in reality. Makes me proud to be a Hindu and an Indian. Salute to all those great women.. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Why people start fighting with each other and start showing their culture was better?? Our ancestors fought for us and have their name in own rich history. You are just born in their families but in actual you are not as noble as them if you don't follow that path instead of fighting with each other and try to defame and think other culture is smaller and less important then there...
