For those who watched it. Who didn't love and I mean love when Colin Montgomery would come over to play the majors after dominating the European Tour Order of Merit for years. It truly was a great time for golf and the rivalry was outstanding. It was quite literally like having an individual Ryder cup type of buildup. He was Europe's shining knight for the longest time to win the US Open because he was a straight driving machine. I'll never forget the Golf Digest article talking about him having rabbit ears form all of the heckling he would receive. 100% agreed golf needs that second or even third major tour. With the majors serving as the "World Championships". The playoffs ought to be their best against our best and lets see who comes out on top.

Finally a PGAT golfer talking sense about all of this. LIV is great for golf and competition, plus PIF investing money like that into the game cannot be a bad thing. I've said most of what PH said here for the past 2 years, almost word for word regarding his point about the Players at Sawgrass - that is a real opportunity to make the '5th major' gimmick a reality by inviting the top 10 LIV players to play. Another solid idea is to allow LIV players to play 'regular' PGAT events to strengthen those fields when there's no LIV event that week. Perhaps another idea could be to have a 'PGAT' team on LIV that has a revolving roster to allow 4 PGAT players to play LIV events on their off weeks. With open minds, there's a lot of potential.

The greatest thing about professional golf is getting paid for how well you play. That's what I personally love about the game. Other sports hand out massive amounts of money to players who have performed well in the past. It's easy to relax and just ride out one's contract after you have been blessed with life changing money. It happens all the time in every sport. Most LIV golfers are set for life financially, they have no incentive to be the best and to win tournaments. They have lost the desire to win because winning is meaningless for them. The goal of professional golfers is to win tournaments so they can become wealthy. If they become wealthy without winning tournaments, why would they care about winning again?
@gregrizzo8054
@gregrizzo8054 4 ай бұрын
Dustin Johnson is a good example. Has more talent than almost any golfer in the world. Since he got paid his results are pathetic. All he has to do is show up and play. Hack it around for 54 or 72 holes and it's all good. His results are meaningless to him because he just get's paid to show up and swing the club. It's sad and pathetic because he could have been one of the great golfers of his era. Bottom line is there are golfers that have the ability to be known amongst their peers and in the public arena as the best who ever played the game, unfortunately no LIV golfer will ever claim that Distin tinction.

Padraig makes sense. LIV must be given World Ranking Points so we can see the best players in the majors. Sure add 1-2 other events if you want. Seems to me the majority of exciting personalities went to LIV and they are missed. Love or hate them but they made the game of golf much more enjoyable. I believe Norman is forward thinking and he is one of the most intelligent and successful men in golf. He’s the kind of figure I would want on my board of directors. Now let’s get er done. 🙏

Padrig was correct about all his comments. Last week was amazing…it would interesting to see what the tv viewership was seeing that the masters had a 20% drop. Competition is great for the game and the pga can’t get out of their own way to realize that they have more earning potential with including LIV at the majors than without. I’ll bet that John Henry and the rest of the SSG sees it that way.

Three Pro tours. 1) PGAT, 2) Europe and Africa, 3) Asia and Australia of equal status and funding. So three time zone related tours. Saudi should fund the latter two tours unless Chinese companies can finance the Asian tour. The best of the three tours play in the majors and a few other designated World tournaments which must be in Asia and Europe.

Have the LIV tour and DP tour find a way to create a strong world tour that challenges the PGA tour players at some events. Us verses them sells big like Padraig said here. But don't they somehow have to make the top LIV players compete in 72 hole events to EARN world ranking points the way other tours do. Then they clearly earn their way into majors and other big events?

Paddy speaking sense as usual, Bryson made the PGA last week, I see no issue with having LIV and PGA tour existing and sharing together just like the PGA and European tour used to, but perhaps the PGA tour got greedy and killed the European tour and they fear LIV doing the same, there is too much greed in the world and it's infecting everything it needs to stop.
@MoMoMyPup10
@MoMoMyPup10 4 ай бұрын
More like the European Tour players got greedy and all wanted to come to the states to make the big bucks, and to where the best players were. The courses are better and the weather is better. Had nothing to do with the PGA Tour being 'greedy'. But they had to _earn_ the right to stay there. Nothing was given to them just for showing up.

Paddy has the right idea, but the problem is that you can’t just hand LIV guys world ranking points without meeting the criteria. And you can’t change the rules overnight. You could create some qualifying events with some criteria that matches other events and invite the LIV guys to come qualify, similar to what Sergio has done. We can call the LIV guys the “best players in the world” except for the idea that the last 4 majors, DJ has either not made the cut or been a non factor. The same is true for others on LIV but not all. Guys like Bryson who have kept their game in order and can still perform, will have no problem grabbing one of a handful of spots available for those majors. A meritocracy (like the majors) diminishes the weight of past success as it fades into the rear view mirror. Unfortunately for some (not all) of the LIV guys, they don’t have the game to be considered the best in the world anymore because they don’t perform in the majors. If we dilute the majors, that’s exactly what they’ll be. Diluted and fewer people will watch them.

Padraig saying the home truths, the demonisation of LIV has been ridiculous. These are professional golfers, and by their very nature chase where ever they can get paid best. The blood money arguments are nonsensical, ARAMACO sponsor the ladies tour, PIF invest in most TOP100 companies, some of which sponsor the PGA, so crossover already exists. The tours need to get round the table, resolve differences and agree a future. LIV has already positively impacted the PGA tour from a player income perspective, yet said players as supposedly upset with LIV, is this the politics of envy?

They are eventually going to be in for a real shock come Jan 2025 when if no deal is reached how many no names and elite players opt for LIV. The PGA ain't losing anymore big names to LIV after the Rahm situation. There's just no way future top players are going to be comfortable ending their career at the start of their prime to play exhibition golf and become nobodies. LIV is unsustainable when their structure revolves around poaching players from the very league they want to destroy. Mickelson is the one laughing all the way to the bank, he had his entire career with PGA and then gets a healthy retirement fund. I think quietly the LIV guys are hoping LIV dies by 2027 and they can come back to PGA with money in their pocket.

But LIV has nothing but money. None of their 'tournaments' mean a thing period. The LIV players would never play the regular PGA Tour events. They allegedly want to play LESS golf, and they are getting hundreds of millions for playing less. There is nothing you can do about this, and I don't know how long the PGA Tour can keep paying huge amounts to limited fields; they don't have oil money, they rely on actual revenue based on ratings etc.. Eventually all the LIV players will get older, and they will need to be replaced by younger PGA players that are hot...as long as SA wants to have these guys as Jesters, I don't see a way out. Still, Bryson was really the only one that made a charge, a hell of a charge, but LIV is 0/2 this year...and most PGA Tour players are outplaying them. That's the bottom line.
