It's so astounding that a guitar speaker is the essential tone of an artists album. G12-65 for RTL, G12T-75 for MoP and AJFA, V30 for TBA and so on

I feel like a blend of both of these would allow you to get close to any of the first 4 albums tones

Yes, the V30 sounds definitely modern and more "aggreeable". Great playing, you've gone through some of the best Metallica riffs, sometimes it's good to remember how ferocious this band used to be. Could you talk a bit about the delay? I also run a Boss DD7 constantly, to address the completely dry guitar in the mix and give it some dimension (I'm the sole guitarist in my band).
@Padreblue1115 күн бұрын
@@thedddemon thanks man! I just hit the delay for those end bits to make it standout more. I usually only use it for solos or for hitting harmonics. I’d say the biggest thing you could do if you’re the sole guitarist, is get a long speaker cable and a second cab. Run a cab on each side of the stage, doing that alone will greatly improve the quality of the show. As you won’t have to worry about a soundguy making sure the other side of the stage can hear you
@thedddemon15 күн бұрын
@@Padreblue11 Thanks! Wouldn't there be any phasing/masking by the two cabinets playing the same thing?
@Padreblue1114 күн бұрын
@ not at all, it’d be like running a full stack. Only instead one of the cabs is on the other side of the stage

The G12s of course... never liked Vintage 30s. A buddy has them in a couple of Boogie cabinets; I prefer my G12-75s or Greenbacks in a 1960TV all day long. Are those Bill & Becky's I see?

@@Padreblue11 Right on! I've never been very inclined to change my neck pickup (they all sound like a 59 to me), but once I got the taste for an XL in the bridge, there was no looking back - I just go ahead and order one every time I get a new ride. Have been messing around with the L90s though. I like them in the neck position of all places - 4.0h model.

@@Padreblue11 I'm not a battery changer... lol. Starting with my first Gibson 500T I quickly developed an allergy to ceramic magnets as well. I know EMG rules the metal crowd, but I could never get them to inspire me quite like a good ole passive Alnico V pup can.

You gotta get your hands on one of the old 80s 15 ohm g12-65s. I was able to eventually snag one after some looking. Some say they sound different, but I’ve never had a chance to compare it with a reissue.
@Padreblue1121 күн бұрын
@@wootks I have a vintage 8ohm 65 and it’s a lot brighter than the reissues. I’m betting the RIs are closer to that voicing given how scooped they are
@wootks21 күн бұрын
@ ah didn’t realize you had both vintage and reissue on hand. Awesome. Any other speakers you are looking for? It seems like those non-vented 80s g12-t75’s might be good even though the later ones have a bad reputation. Speakers I do find frustrating because they do vary a lot over the years. I am currently experimenting with the g12-65 and a DV-77 in a 2x12. The idea being old and new.
@Padreblue1121 күн бұрын
@ yeah I actually wanna eventually get some old G12-75s, apparently the scooped ones are the bones of Iced Earth’s tome. But it has to be the early ones since they switched the voicing 2-3 times lol
@wootks20 күн бұрын
@@Padreblue11 yeah they are a real minefield to buy. I am casually on the look out for em too. You can never be certain with guitar speakers. Once you find some good ones you gotta hold on to them forever. Haha.

@ maybe I’m being a little harsh but 16 ohm speakers are just more bitey/bright than 8 ohm speakers. Pretty sure it goes that way for any brand. Idk why but it’s a thing.
