I love this interview and I love our manager, Mike Shildt. He dearly loves his players, and he only speaks well of them. It is wonderful to see him relaxed! You rock, Mr. Shildt! Have a wonderful Christmas!

Notice what happened to the Cardinals after he left. Shildty is a leader. Took the worst ranked defense and changed them into the best, won 17 in a row and a playoff slot, and then was fired. Yep. Fans in STL are not pleased with ownership and Moz etc. Hoping for better days.

All GM's have "something up their sleeves" or at least they think they do. Love Mike Shildt and the Cardinals did this man wrong, but sometimes he is too over the top and overly forced with the gee shucks I adore and love my players and organization. Having said that I see the Padres competing every year with him at the helm and giving the Dodgers a run for their money. The NL West is the best Division in Baseball. Great interview.

As a Pads ST holder, this current core has peaked. Seidler and Preller were fiscally irresponsible with big, long term contracts and currently, prospects are being traded for 1-2 year players. This is not sustainable, they need to develop multiple prospects to stay afloat because they are tapped out budget wise.
@mike-vq8zwАй бұрын
@@Honesty1111 you couldn't be more correct. I've been saying for years that AJ's approach just doesn't work. He's constantly just trying to win for one year and has no clue how to build a team and an organization. Constantly trading away the farm system and developing no one until 2024 in centerfield. I've been saying for years, too much money going to too few players. Leaving the rest of the roster wanting for talent. A top of the order that is more then competitive but a huge drop off in talent after the four hole.

Mike is a VERY astute baseball man...a TRUE lifer. No, he didnt play the game, professionally. But he's that rare kind of person, who was raised around the game, all of his kid-hood, right on thru adulthood. If you're raised around a minor league ballpark, and your Mom works there...and all you see is pro ballplayers trying to make it to the big leagues, day in and day out...chances are, you're going to learn everything about the game. He's seen enough of the Dodgers, to know the Padres can beat them. Hell, we won the season series against them. No other team in the division, can say that. And we beat them WITH OHTANI LEADING OFF. So, Shildt knows we can win a WS, even if we have to go thru LA to do it. And I think he's the perfect manager for this team. But Preller has to keep a core of guys that can get it done. To people around the game that had a problem with Mr Seidler spending all this money to get all these players?...guess what?...anything less than the players we had this season and in 2022, will not get us a WS. Not with LA in this division. To beat the best, you have to be well-equipped. Its that simple. If Dylan Cease didnt choke in Game 4, and put us behind the 8 ball, because he couldnt finish 3 innings, I think we win that game and eliminate having to go back to LA.

The problem is, once again AJ has traded away all his tricks except for two, The only two in the organization another team would be interested in that would return any help. Too few of the players making too much of the money. Going to need a lot of tricks for all the holes on this roster. Padres have two pitchers they could lose next season due to finances. If you trade them who do you replace them with? He has a batting champion with no position. Lots of holes, THIS TEAM IS A MESS

Unfortunately Profars bat went back to sleep during the second half and slept right on through the playoffs. Good chance he's gone back to his old self again and the Padres will once again pay through the nose for a player with one good season in his career.
@redpillbrotherhood110Ай бұрын
Agree paying for Profar isn't worth it. They probably need to buy a cheap 1 year free agent like Dylan Carlson to play LF and try to get one more good trade done. See if Sasaki is willing to come to SD. They'll be competitive but AJ has an uphill battle this offseason
@mike-vq8zwАй бұрын
@redpillbrotherhood110 unless the Padres are willing to spend more I think they are going to have a troubled season . It sounds like they can't even afford what they have right now, So once again AJ probably won't even begin to put this team together until spring training and then some . We are going to have to accept whoever is willing to come here on a one-year contract for a very little just like Profar did.

Preller lost Soto, the CY winner, the best closer in MLB and had to shed $100M total in payroll and they were 1 win from knocking out LA, who ADDED over a billion in contracts that year on top of already having a higher payroll. Objective reality will tell you who did better with their allotment. Friedman gets a billion plus, signs the top FA, the top Int'l FA and Teoscar, trades for Glasnow... wow, that's some real tactical work. Then the next year they sign the #1 SP for $10M/year more than NYY offered him last year. Dodger fans: 🥴Our GM is gud, he's best. No, you just outspend teams that can't do all that. No need to pretend your GM is outsmarting everyone.

@rayfinkle9369 you forget Friedmans days with the rays he has been wheeling and dealing since the late 2010s and with a very very low budget.
