He is baseball royalty, a billionaire pro sports franchise owner that has taken San Diego by storm since he bought the Padres in 2012. But, as KPBS’s Maya Trabulsi reports, what many people don’t know about Peter Seidler is his infectious optimism. He believes he can help create a better future for San Diego’s unhoused population.

I grew up as a child in Pasadena and played little league baseball with Peter and a few of his brothers. He and the Seidler Family are salt of the earth and generous beyond words. God Bless them all as they grieve his passing. And let us strive to be like that salt that Peter exemplified!

Easily stands with ray kroc as the greatest padres owner we've ever had. For those of us who lived through the fire sale and especially the old timers who've suffered through really bad baseball for even longer, I thank you. Never could we friar faithful ever have thought we would get someone to invest in the team as passionately as you have. My hope is that you fire preller this offseason. It is well past time and we have 8 years of terrible job performance and millions upon millions of wasted money. I understand you are a money manager. I ask, if someone working under you had created a portfolio in the way preller constructed the 2015 team, would you have kept him? I cannot possibly imagine you would. The destruction he caused in that 1 season destroyed the previous 4 years of work cleaning the books and actually building some farm talent. We could have had trea Turner and max fried, but we ended up with wil Myers and james shields. Extending manny was the right thing to do. He actually gave our franchise legitimacy, unlike the Hosmer signing which never made sense and who was so bad, you had to eat another 30 million to get him off the squad. However, the way it is structured is quite concerning, not as much over the loss of bally's, but because it is so heavily back loaded. It forces manny to keep playing well past when his body is done and starts holding back the team. Father time always wins. The Andy green and jayce tingler hirings deserve special mention as being 2 truly awful decisions. Many, far better candidates were available. Joey Cora, for instance, earned a math degree at Vanderbilt while also learning English. There are too many mistakes over these 8 years. I can safely say that virtually every other Padres GM we have ever had would have done a better job than preller if they had your backing. 8 years and as I look around the diamond and in the rotation, we do not have a single drafted and developed starter. I look at the Dodgers and they have many. The difference between the Dodgers and us is not money, you have eliminated that excuse. The difference between the franchises has to do with Andrew Friedman who may go into the hall of fame, and aj preller, who reminds me of silicone valley bank. Please do us all a favor and fire aj preller.
