You can hate on Preller all you want, but his last two trades were pure magic and won us this game: Cease with 12k and 1 hit and 0 runs in 7, and Arreaz getting on and scoring two of our three runs.

People who hate on him don’t understand what he’s doing. I suspect he knew Siedler was in poor health and tried to get him a title before he passed last season. We obviously couldn’t afford the team we had last season so I’m happy with the moves he’s made with Arraez. Arraez is a contact hitter and nobody appreciates contact hitters like SD fans

@@cllax14 I love Pete and always will, but I suspect a lot of the big contracts were his decision because of his health. He wanted to bring a championship to the city before he was gone.

Love him or hate him, championship or not, you can’t argue the fact that he, along with Pete, has made the Padres fun to watch and an interesting team as opposed to the past two decades where they were a mostly forgotten franchise after Gwynn retired.

The cease trade was amazing, arraez looks good too.. But we hate because of Hosmer, 13 million on the books this year and next, oh and add now another 10 years of Xander who is unplayable who makes 28 million a year. The Myers contract... Giving up on prospects way to early. Jack Suwinski, CJ Abrams, Ty France... This roster could be full of low salaried players who are controllable. Yet he just wants the BIG names. Cease is short term, so is arraez... AJ doesnt think long term in terms of development.

Padres seem to be getting some momentum, but you never know. Bogaerts is a worry as his batting average is continues to fall. He's lost confidence. Arreaz was a great pickup. A series against the Dodgers will be telling. Hope to win the series, but with Waldron pitching the second game, that's a risky proposition.

knuckleball pitchers are a risk in general... to their team, to the opponents team, and thank god also to the umps we need a few more knuckle ball pitchers throughout the league.... and make sure they are pitching IN EVERY GAME that angel hernandez umps he wont be able to complain about getting beaned in the face and chest all game

Waldron pitching also means Higgy in the lineup instead of Campusano. They should sit Bogaerts that day, Arraez at 2nd, Campy DH.

Cease is really good. Just staying ahead of the hitters with 5 or 6 pitches at his command and with that velo too. And stamina. In addition to Cease they have a real closer in Suarez. That left us the just the 8th inning to get to them. We didn't manage it. Feels like Cubs lost a series to a better team, no matter what their record. Their lineup is batting in the .250's while we are in the .230's. That's not that big a deal since we have clutch hitters. But the total picture was clear this series. Happ has to stop being such a lazy batter looking for walks. For an example of a good competitive at bat, see Bellinger's 12-pitch ab from the second game. Eventually went down but he got keyed in on the pitcher and ended up with several hits. We could seriously benefit from Gomes of last year too. It's time to stop thinking about reinforcements and start thinking about playing hard competitive ball.
