I feel so relieved knowing i can veil as a part of paganism. I've always felt a connection and attraction to veiling, but never did because i felt it would disrespect Islam.
@TheStitchingWitch2 жыл бұрын
For sure! Now I do tend to stay away from styling my veil the way that Muslims do, as I don't want to disrespect their traditions, but there are tons of ways to tie a veil for sure!
@Constantin9va Жыл бұрын
As a scholar, I am thrilled to ease your worries! Islamic veiling actually originated out of pagan practice! The Prophet (PBUH) had to work within the existing Bedouin culture, and he had his priorities straight! The Quran states that women are commanded to veil their chests, NOT their hair! There is much debate around this issue, it’s really interesting! The only time a woman in Islam is kinda supposed to cover her head is during prayer. And if she doesn’t, that’s fine. It’s not haram(forbidden) but makruh(acceptable). I hope this eases your anxieties! Watching my friends choose wether or not to veil was fascinating. Sadly, it is true that many girls are forced to wear the hijab. This happened to my friend in the mid aughts. Her dad called ALL the teachers to make sure she was wearing it. Awkward. She tried to rebel, she cried, it was awful. Eventually her father bleeped her into submission. She always had the most fly veils on for the rest of our time together, but that is an experience that will never leave me. Hope this was informative! Merde on your veil journey!🧕

As a Muslim girl I am very drawn to being a witch I believe when it comes to being a witch I’m very secular because I love my religion, but again this made me happy that I can cover my head if I ever wanted to and not feel like I’m not able to follow a peaceful routine lifestyle of a witch!

Wrapunzel has non-slip headbands to wear under your veil so that you can wear silk ones as well, and a ton of wonderful scarves, that are so pretty, and cheap - also I think it was Chaotic Witch Aunt who said that she wears a smaller cotton scarf under silkier ones, to keep them from slipping. That way you do not have to use a ton of hairpins. Awesome video, blessings

Yess those are so fabulous! I def need to get some for my silkier wraps for sure.

I am relatively new to Hellenic paganism and witchcraft (I’ve not been very active recently whoops) but I have been interested in veiling for a while. I think I might start soon 💗 when I was watching this video, I decided to put on my special beanie lmao In a few weeks I will be going on a holiday and there will be a few markets that I am planning on going too so I’ll keep a lookout for scarves etc that call out to me! Also hoping I can find some nice crystals as well, I prefer buying them at markets rather than in shops 🔮 If you are reading this, I hope you have a lovely day 🫶

Growing up, i would use it both in the empath way and also to shield from negative energies or to hide my energy from anything predatory-I’m really glad I’ve come back to it because it is very comforting to have it physically there.

Thank you so much for this gourgous video! I am thinking about veiling more in daily life for more comfort (I am very sensitive especially on my head) and not only because of the sun (need a lot of protection cause also very sensitive skin...). I did wear veils a few years ago when I had very long and heavy braids and I loved the looked but stopped doing it when I got them out... Would also love to do it more to honor the gods and especially the nornes

You also don’t have to veil every day. A lot of witches and pagans try to, but personally, I usually veil more when it’s practical, when I’m performing spell work, or when I’ll be in a situation that I know I’ll be exposed to large amounts of negative energy (being around toxic family members or working in food service for example). Then as part of my personal practice and how I was taught by my first mentor, (this may or may not work for you) you can also use veil braids if you have long hair. You just braid your intention of protection from negative energy into the braid and cleanse it with moon water at night. Additionally I was taught that hats like baseball caps and such Can work for a more subtle veil. Granted this all entirely depends on your practice and what feels right to you. Veiling was one of the very first things I learned about witchcraft or paganism so I feel pretty confident about it within the context of my own beliefs. Your intuition and practice might tell you something differently and it’s important to honor that.

Veiling was present in European, middle eastern, African, South Asian, and other cultures before Judaism Christianity or Islam ever existed. It wasn't a religious thing, it was cultural. Anyone can veil regardless of their religion and shouldn't feel weird about doing so

*Disclaimer: The biggest thing here is you find what feels right and is safe FOR YOU. This is all my personal experience, and as you read over it I want you to really tune in with yourself and your intuition and decide if any of it is advice that feels like it could work in your practice.* That being said, some things that might work well for you that I use in my personal practice. They aren’t going to be conventional things that all witches will agree with, but they work for me as someone in a highly conservative Christian area. Sometimes I’ll use baseball caps as veils. I spray them with moon water before and after I use them, but spraying them after is more important to cleanse them of the negative energy they may have absorbed throughout the day. I also use a veil braid sometimes. The #1 point of veiling is to protect yourself from negative energy, so what I do is braid my hair with that intention. It can be a small “padawan” braid if you have long hair and want it down, or it could be a full French braid. What I like to do is spray my hair with moon water while I’m styling. Veiling with a braid doesn’t necessarily carry the symbolism of covering from negative energy, but the magic is within you. Folk practitioners of old/our pagan ancestors didn’t have stores. They had to use what they had to draw out their inner power. If people are already judging you for wearing bandanas, take it slowly if you really feel like you want to do a full headscarf. Try wearing a full headscarf about once a month, then twice a month, then once a week, etc. slowly people will get used to the idea of you “changing your style” and they won’t question it. That’s how a lot of goth and emo people phase into their new aesthetics, and it seems to work for them. Also you do not have to veil every day. I know plenty of witches that don’t, and I personally tend to veil more when I know I’ll be exposed to large amounts of negative energy (customer service work or toxic relatives for example), I know I’ll be doing witchcraft outside of my home, when I know I’ll be in a large crowd, or when I just really feel like I should that day. I would like to reiterate. This is my personal practice. Veiling is something I’ve been doing since the beginning and I’ve found ways that really work for me personally. *You need to decide if any of this advice resonates with you.* I just really want to stress that.

I totally understand! It sounds like you might be under the age of 18, and as an adult I just want ya to know that it gets better!! I was unable to openly practice for a lot of the foundational years of developing my spiritual practice, and it totally sucked! 6 years later though, I have a lot more freedom! It's okay if you can't practice outwardly right now! It doesn't make you any less of a witch, and I want to prioritize your safety! If it is unsafe for you to practice the way that you want right now, know that it is okay, and there is no shame in that! Just something to look forward to in the future.
@PonyAwesomeness2 жыл бұрын
I know a lot of school have rules on headwear, unless proven it's religious. Which then takes out the whole point of the broom closet unfortunately. Are you able to get a couple of bandanas though? It doesn't need to be a scarf. And most schools, at least in my area are pretty relaxed on a simple bandana. As it really is no different then a headband to keep the hair out of your face. I've veiled for the good part of a year now and while I definitely don't have the problem of not needing to keep it a secret, and will happily wear bright colours to stand out more, there are times I feel safer keeper it under wraps. Many pagans will also veil in other ways besides a head scarf. Do you have a necklace you can enchant or use for protection? It can be anything that means something to you. Another way could be to braid your hair. With each braid you do, you can put intent into it. There are other ways. If you can, there is a Facebook group for pagan veiling where I learned lots of discreet ways of veiling when I started. Just look up pagan veiling and you'll find it. Even Reddit would be a good source.
@miramari7322 жыл бұрын
You can also incorporate fabric headband or even tie it around ponytail as a bow it shouldnt be so obvious but it still have symbolic meaning. Also if you can, get medical exemption (i.e. veiling that puts pressure on base of the skull is known for eleviating headaches and migraines). I know also that people use headphones as form of veiling, but I don't know if it is allowed in your school (it wasn't in mine jr high). There are also those bun covers - piece of round fabric with elastic around brim, you can make low bun and cover it with that - it's safer than hairpins, especially during exercises. It showed for a moment in my country and then was gone, but it's not hard to sew something similar.
