I'd have to agree, the Seiko Mecha-Quartz movements are a great option if you want an affordable chronograph. I've never had any issues with mine, the battery life is excellent.

If they had used a Seagull ST19 this would have resulted in a thicker case and the watch would be less suitable as an everyday watch to be honest. The watch itself clearly is one of PD's best works. The only negative I can see is the lack of a running second. But there is an alternative quartz movement on the market that even has a sweeping chrono hand like the Meca-Quartz has and a running second hand, it the Miyota 6S21.

Good call, Alex. I actually ordered the Red Star 21 Zuan with Miyota 6S21 based on Mr Budget Watch Wes’s review. It should arrive within a week. Based on what I saw, I prefer the “slow” sweep of the chronograph hand reset of the 6S21 rather than the snap back of the VK63/64. This, of course, did not stop me from buying the Pagani Gilt Moonwatch homage, which is superb!! 👍😁

Mate, silver gaffer tape on the crown and push buttons to take of the blue protective film. Use the thick very sticky stuff, rip a bit off, stick it on the blue film, push and twist a little to make sure it's really stuck on then when you peel it off the blue film comes with it. Took me 13 Paganis to figure this out! All the best mate, love the videos. X

Good point with the VK64. Not having running seconds and having flyback reset you would never know it's a quartz until you need to replace the battery. The 1/5 sweep chrono second hand simulates a 2.5Hz (18,000bph) mechanical movement. I have inexpensive Chinese Sunon PE70 chrono movement watches similar to VK63 layout (no running seconds) that also feature 1/5 second chrono but they are not mechaquartz so they don't flyback reset. Now there are 1/4 second sweep quartz non-chrono movements such as Seiko VH31 and Sunon SP28 that simulate 2Hz (14,400bph) mechanical movements. I have a few of those also. I have some 1970s "electronic" watches that pre-date quartz. ESA 9154 movement in a Sears Swiss Made watch. They use a battery and a balance wheel beating at 28,800bph. Pretty cool stuff.

Excellent video Simon. For an affordable chronograph and even for chronographs generally I prefer a quartz or solar quartz. More reliable,, accurate and great longevity. From experience the Seagull mechanical chrono movement is virtually unrepairable. I dropped mine just onto a carpet, it did get a fair jolt, and it stopped. Took it too a very experienced local repair guy, and one look, he said sorry, not worth it. I'm sure a more expensive mechanical chrono can be repaired but will cost a fortune.

Just got my Panda dial variant in today and it is SPLENDID!!!! Got my “Tiffany” bb36 from Pagani in at the end of last week as well and am loving that one as well!!!! Now just waiting for the 1701 to arrive!! Both pieces I’ve gotten so far have been STUNNING aside from a few QC issues with both that I very easily overlook due to how beautiful the heads of the pieces are!

Great to see your take on the watch, I have the panda version and will be putting it up against the san martin in a comparison video. I found the fake rivots to be better left off, as once you get to the links with screws you effectively lose a rivot on that side which just makes it look awkward as there are a few links on each side (depending on how many removed for sizing) that look to be missing a rivot! I am also dissapointed in the UGS script, as there is no apparent meaning for it, and it reminds me of the PT Time script on some of their other newer ones. Don't like it at all, just leave it off. Overall though it's a very sharp looking watch and for just over a hundred bucks Canadian that I got mine for it is a great deal. I also found my bracelet to be stiff on the links after adjusting, if you loosen the screws a little it helps but then the screw is loosened a little which you don't want to do. I also found the pushers on mine to be quite difficult to engage with, getting somewhat stuck against the case when screwing in. The finishing on mine is definitely improved for a pagani as well, great review m8, always love your take!!!

Apparently the UGS writing stands for Upgraded Series or something along those lines but like you I’d rather they didn’t add unnecessary writing on the dial. It’s a very good proposition for the money and is finished very well. I was just keeping things factual mate and always will point out if something isn’t done quite right. Thanks for watching bro 👍👍

The bezel is most likely alligned properly. The dial is a bit off center, just open the caseback and fiddle the movement a bit to the direction needed. Had the same issue.

Good Day; I have the same watch and I also had the insert was misaligned so I used some grip solvent for and hour and removed it. I cleaned the old adhesive and realigned it perfectly. I let it cure under a UV light and to be sure I left it under the sun for extra drying time.

I just received mine today, reverse panda. I took it to my local jewler to be sized , my watch didn't have screws & it didn't have the anchor ⚓ on the case back, it has the old pagani design logo !

I'm looking PD-1718 and PD-1644 now but i can't choose correct one. Which one is more comfortable and has better finishing and better build quality. Comfort and build ( specially bracelett ) most important for me. ( Sorry for my limited English :) )

It’s all good my friend, I understand you perfect and tbh it’s a matter of choice. The PD-1644 is a classic for Pagani and the PD-1718 is another step in the right IMO. I had the white panda and the 6 o’clock marker was not straight. It seems yours is the same, hard to spot at first but a line from the top marker to the bottom shows the 6 marker is slightly crooked.

It seems both the black and the white versions have this issue the Chrono hand is a fraction to the left and the 6 o’clock baton is slightly crooked. If you pass a thread of cotton over the watch face it’s apparent the baton , the chrono markings , and the baton don’t line up. It’s a pity because the watch is great for the money. I suspect some people won’t notice but once seen hard to forget. One other thing the white panda is hard to read especially for older eyes.
