7:10 double harmonics WITH trills and later with vibrato. this is the new benchmark for no.1 hardest thing ever on the violin!

I attended his recital in mid 1950's in Bandung, Indonesia when I was in high school and still practicing violin. When I asked to sign on his picture at the program, he crossed the picture as it was Isaac Stern's. I had also his old recordings playing Paganini's 1st and 2nd violin concertos. He is a truly Paganini specialist.

The only one that can do all the different techniques so easy like this, no one has ever reached to this easiness yet. You can say that Roman Kim has some special abilities(the most famous special harmonics especially), but no one can do all the different techniques so easy like him. And the last part the tempo is just insane! Literally nobody can play this tempo with this quality, although there are someone very close to it(Xiang Chen) but not the same speed and quality(of course Ricci used many easier fingering but you have to admit, the quality is super). Ricci was just too fast, with this tempo he managed to pull off 99% of the note and with almost perfect intonation there. How does it even possible for a human being! Truly master of the violin technique at all time.

Ok even most violinists probably won't quite understand just how insane Ricci's left hand pizzicato is. He only uses the bow when he absolutely NEEDS it, meaning he can pluck, for example, a 3rd finger D on the A string with his 4th finger on E. Most violinists (including Paganini) would bow this note instead due to the massive amount of finger strength required to pluck it, but not Ricci!

Ricci was as good as anyone of his day, and often better. His Mendelssohn recording is fantastic, with perfect intonation and stunning clear as a bell left hand and bow articulation that rivals or exceeds a Milstein or Kogan. Yes, he would take chances in a live concert, and could be careless, but so what.

We've never heard Paganini. Paganini also kept the sheet music hidden and his request was to destroy it upon his death. Must be some cooler heads preserved it and was slowly published. Maybe if students had access to the scores, then Paganini wouldn't have sounded so good. Perhaps Ricci playing is what Paganini wanted to sound like. Adventures in Good music with Karl Haus picked Ricci's recording of moto perpetuo as the finest. I am so grateful Ricci recorded under VOX so us students could afford records.

A rather strange performance from such a gifted violinist. In any case he would pass NO exam in this world with his insane and sloppy playing which produces more than anything innumerable wrong notes. Musically this is showmanship with nothing more profound to offer. I know, however, very different recordings by him that keep all the promises his technique actually makes. That's why he is indeed one of the great legends of violin playing. - But by no means with THIS recording.

As good as Eugene Fodor was,Ruggerio was the best interpreter of this work. I was very surprised he was NOT in the top 20 violinist chosen in a classical musician's opinion poll!!!! Neither was Zino or Phillppe or Christian or Hendryk!!! (Not to mention Ida, Jelly or Gulia not even Erica? At least Ginette was 8th:She was considered better than Stern but not as good as Szegetti???!!!!) They also picked Oistrahk over Heifetz!!!
