It's basically just private schools in the US that wear uniforms. In my public middle school, my first year they tried to enforce uniforms, and a lot of parents protested. So the next year, they made uniforms mandatory unless you had a parental waiver, which could be for religious reasons or just for "freedom of expression" reasons. So many parents signed the waivers that the teachers and staff didn't even bother enforcing the policy for those who had no waiver, because looking up who did and didn't have one would be a waste of time. So the third year, they completely got rid of any uniform policy at all. Which is to say, public schools in the US don't generally have uniforms because parents don't want their kids wearing one 😂

As Americans we do not use the word bullocks. Here in Los Angeles, Bullock’s is an old defunct department store. Although you no doubt have seen it as it was used as the department store in Christmas Vacation and other countless well known Hollywood movies.

Hey guys, from OH here 👋Just wanna let you know I enjoy your channel, particularly in learning about the things that you guys feel different about Korea (The good part of Korea ofc) and also some of the quirky facts about ZA (Thanks to Chantelle for the abbreviation, I can now be a little lazy down in the comments) and the UK. Although I did come across some of the things John says that are not as common around here in the midwest but it's really nice to hear from different perspectives. And I admire Sam's accent too 🧐🎩

I think that the difference between the accents of John, Sam, Chantelle, and Walter is interesting. And the degree of difference reflects the history of the English-speaking world. John's accent is the most different from Sam's, because the settlers from England to what is now the United States came mostly before the American Revolution, which lasted from 1775 until 1783. The changes in pronunciation which occurred in most of the British dialects started in the 1780's, with certain common traits such as the loss of "r" at the end of a syllable. The way in which John and many Americans speak English gives one a good idea of how people in London and southeastern England (from where most of the settlers came) spoke in the 1700's, right up until the decade of the '80's of that century. This includes lexical elements, such as the preference of the words "fall" and "sick" (for all ailments) in the US, to "autumn" and "ill" in the UK. Now, with respect to Walter, his speech is more like Sam's than John's, because, by the time the English had begun to colonize Australia, in the 1780's, the aforementioned linguistic changes were already underway in England. Then, by the time of the emigration of English people to southern Africa, those changes were full-blown, which is why Chantelle's accent is so similar to Sam's.

Legit, I'd totally hang out with y'all. I'd definitely rib John a lot, but I promise it would be in good fun. Don't make me choose, though! As fun as it is to pick on John (seriously, dude, you make it so easy, stop that), he's very intelligent, baller at Dad Jokes, thoughtful/mindful, and a foodie. Sam's a Brit, and Brits are damn awesome *period.* History, arts, football (not that fake rugby for wusses that the US calls 'football'), HORSERACING, humor...and all the best actors are British (save for Mr Clark Gable, who hails from Cadiz, Ohio [my home state], who is the best ever). Then there's Chantelle. Girl, you are ALWAYS on point with *everything.* Comebacks, clapbacks, you are the QUEEN of roasting the guys. I love animals, and South Africa is home to some of my favorites: cheetah, leopard, oryx, zebra, caracal, serval, several fascinating and beautiful birds, great white sharks, and loads of awesome reptiles. Your knowledge of South Africa's history and social/demographics is incredible. I will (sadly) never be able to visit South Africa (it's expensive to travel abroad, and I'm terrified of flying/heights) but if I ever did, I'd totally go to you for recommendations.

Now that I think about it, busted can mean a lot of things. Busted as in someone looks busted (ugly/bad/poor quality), busted/busting my/your balls (although admittedly this one isn't very nice), and in poker, busted means you have no money left. Oh, and as for uniforms, practically all schools here in miami have them, even the public schools.
