So stinking gorgeous! I want one! I only need someone to make one for me. My son began building furniture in his free time about 2 years ago. Now if I could only convince him to build his mom a table like that.

THANK YOU SIR FOR A GREAT VIDEO. YOUR WISDOM AND KIND SOUL HAS ALLOWED ME TO LEARN FROM YOUR EXPERIENCE. THERE ARE SO MANY NEW THINGS I AM LEARNING DAILY...AND I AM SO NEW TO THIS....THIS PROJECT IS ONE OF A KIND TO ME...THANK YOU. I ALSO WANT TO CONGRATULATE YOU ON SOMETHING THAT I AM WORKING ON AS WELL. DUE TO SEVERAL MEDICAL DIFFICULTIES, I MANAGED TO GAIN TOO MUCH WEIGHT. THIS IN TURN CAUSED SPINE ISSUES, ETC ETC. I AM ON MY WAY TO A NEW SELF. IT IS NICE TO SEE THAT YOU ARE IN SHAPE AND FIT/TRIM. FOR EXAMPLE, WATCHING YOU APPLY THE HVAC TAPE MADE ME REALIZE THAT IT WOULD BE TOO MUCH STRAIN FOR MY LOWER BACK...YES, SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS BENDING A FEW DEGREES SETS MY SPINE ON FIRE. YET, IN A FEW SHORT MONTHS I WILL BE ABLE TO DO THAT. SO AGAIN, CONGRATS TO YOU --- AND REMEMBER TO TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOUR HEALTH....I'VE LEARNED THAT MY BODY IS MY TEMPLE AND I HAVE JUST ONE.....OK, I BETTER STOP NOW --- WISHING YOU ALL THE BEST. NEW SUB FOR LIFE. THANKS!

I watched the whole thing! I have already done a couple tables with colors so I have been looking for straight non-river tables. I prefer epoxy rather than poly because it tends to protect the wood from dents and scratched better than poly. And you can supposedly sand it with a very fine sandpaper if a non-gloss surface is desired.

Beautiful. Inspired me to go buy this wood. I'm prepping it now. Interested in putting colored epoxy in it. Did u seal the holes before filling? What products did you use on it? Thanks for any guidance

I agree with you. I would prefer a satin finish instead of the high gloss on the top. Nice thought.
@PahjoDesigns6 жыл бұрын
Minion Man - definitely! The glossy finish just doesn’t look real or natural. Thanks for watching!!
@cabbldr5 жыл бұрын
You can sand down a hi gloss to a satin finish. It’s beautiful! And it’s still clear. We do it a lot as our customers typically don’t like the hi gloss look

Helpful tip: don’t use heat to dissipate bubbles as heat will actually promote the formation of more bubbles especially on the seal coat. Spray a very light mist of denatured alcohol on the resin instead. The alcohol reduces the surface tension of the coating and this encourages the bubbles to rise to the surface and burst.

Hey nice work :) it looks really cool. You mentioned that you would have used the finish for the down-side for the top. Thats something i currently would like to test. Fill all voids with a dark brown epoxy, dry it and sand it. After this i would like to apply danish oil to it. Do you have any hints for me?
@PahjoDesigns7 жыл бұрын
Hi Tobias, thanks so much for watching the video. Yes, I actually do have some hints for you. :). I just completed 2 other Epoxy Resin Tables and used Shellac as the top finish instead of the epoxy resin as the top finish. You mentioned the key to saving yourself a LOT of sanding, which is to ONLY put the Epoxy Resin where it needs to go (i.e the voids). You may have a little excess that bleeds over, but that can be sanded down. The goal is to get the epoxy even with the table surface without allowing it to spread across the table surface. Here are a few links to my other 2 YT videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eYSWiql-fLhgd9k kzbin.info/www/bejne/noHVkKR9jKt1l5Y

If you had made the table for yourself (the way you stained the bottom of the table top), how would you have filled the holes if not by epoxy?
@PahjoDesigns Жыл бұрын
I would have used epoxy to only fill the holes. I would not have used it as a top coat. I would have finished the table with a hardwax oil for a more natural/matte finish. Similar to what I did in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jH3GcqGJerWErLs

When you moved onto the fill coat how long did you wait for the first coat to dry?
@PahjoDesigns7 жыл бұрын
Hello Dion, I did the fill coat immediately after I completed the seal coat. There are basically 3 coats for wood that is not flat: 1.) Seal Coat, 2.) Fill Coat, 3.) Flood Coat. For woods with a flat surface, the seal coat and fill coat are synonymous. I brushed on the seal coat which didn't create any bubbles; therefore, I was able to move to the fill coat immediately afterwards. My blog contains more detail of this project: do-daddy.com/do-daddy/pecky-sinker-cypress-table/ Thanks for your question!

if i want to have a dark finish on my cypress pecky table -can i use an oil base minwax stain before any of the resin process. would water base be better? what i basically need to know is if i want a dark finish on the wood ...what is the best process to be sure there are no problems with the resin finish
@PahjoDesigns7 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda, I recommend checking with the manufacturer of the epoxy resin to make certain it adheres to oil based stain. From what I have read, epoxy resin doesn't like oil based stain; therefore, there is a good chance it will not adhere and flake off. However, the manufacturer of the epoxy resin you plan to use are the experts on their product and can guide you one way or the other. Below is what I would do to achieve the desired results you are after. Again, I encourage you to do your own research on the products you plan to use before proceeding with a project. If you are working with pecky cypress, you certainly want to be as careful as possible to ensure you don't ruin the unique wood. I would use multiple thin coats of the sealer I used in this video. You can find it here: amzn.to/2tZTKMR. I personally don't like to use colored stain on nice wood because it sometimes hides the unique grain patterns. Continue to put on very thin coats until you achieve your desired dark finish. Once you achieve the color you want, I would seal it with Zinnser SealCoat (amzn.to/2sonTnb). Zinnser SealCoat is essentially a wax-free shellac, so epoxy resin can go directly on top without any issues. As you can see from my video, the clear epoxy resin I used darkened the wood quite a bit. I hope this helps you and answers your question.
