Hey guys, thought I'd share the story of my admissions interviews for Cambridge uni! Good luck to everyone who has an interview coming up (whether it's for Oxbridge, another uni, or even for a job!). I know they can be nerve-wracking but try to stay calm, have confidence in yourself and showcase what you can do! Getting an interview is an achievement in itself so be proud of yourself and enjoy the opportunity to discuss and explore the subject you're interested in with a top academic. P.S. be sure to let me know how you get on :)

PaigeY Mhm... I just can’t wait to have to interview for Uni someday! Luckily, that’s in 2023 so I’m good! (Yes, I calculated when I’m going to have academic events, don’t judge me. Hopefully the fact that 21 is my lucky number and I’m doing my GCSEs in 2021 helps lol 😂)

Melon Thanda I’m probs not the best person to ask since I’m always that person who is stressing over exams/results 😂 but as hard as it is, I just tried to push it to the back of my mind and enjoy my Christmas holiday - there’s nothing more you can do now so no point overthinking it! I’d advise just keeping yourself busy 😊

I applied to Cambridge last October and had my interview last December (bio natsci at Homerton). I completely bottled a probability question on my biology interview. Very embarrassing as I do further maths so I should be able to do maths problems... my interviewer told me my method was correct but I’d made some mistakes. I was convinced that I hadn’t been memorable or outstanding enough on either interview, but I was offered a place! It really is impossible to judge how well you’ve done on those interviews.

@alicezozo16 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this, Paige! You're a very good story teller ^^ Some thoughts about your last remark on confidence - you're right in that it doesn't determine whether you did well (especially because it's about being teachable and not perfect), but I also think that we (particularly girls) tend to automatically undermine ourselves so as not to feel too disappointed afterwards (or because it's expected socially and we somehow feel we'll be more successful for it in the end?). So to anyone who has an interview coming up, don't put yourself down by trying to depict whatever you did wrong during the interview - your application is reviewed holistically AND like Paige here you'll probably have done better than you think. Good luck to everyone, congratulations for all of your interviews!

Cambridge interview is so awesome, yet it's damn easy. I have watched a couple of natural science interviews, it's bloody easy. They asked a simple question.

The mock interviews posted online definitely do seem easy. This gave me a false sense of confidence when I applied last year, which was promptly shattered when I was asked to derive the time period of a pendulum :')

hi Paige! i am currently preparing for my interviews at Jesus college! your advices are very helpful:) i am very nervous already since i really want the place..😭 i hope i dont make any stupid mistakes!
@PaigeY6 жыл бұрын
Ah good to hear! Good luck with your interview, just give it your best shot and you’ll be fine. They really are nothing to stress over, the interviewers themselves are keen to make them as non-intimidating as possible 😊 P.S. don’t be afraid to make mistakes - we all do and likelihood is that every single candidate will make at least one silly error 😂

I feel like it's a lot of work to get into Uni in England. I don't think we have that in Germany, not even the top Unis. You have to apply, but it's just filling out some forms online. Which is good because I would have been awful at an interview :') And you are like, what, 16 when you apply? That's a lot in my opinion. Is it like that at all british/english Unis?

Also it isn't like this at all British uni's. Most don't interview- it's only really Oxbridge that do although I've heard that Imperial are starting to (also most medicine courses interview I think). Usually it'd just be writing a personal statement and filling out some forms on UCAS.

I just finished an interview for Physics at Wadham college 2 hours ago.The questions were creatively interesting. I felt so dumb, it was absolutely awful ( because my mind is inferior not their attitudes or anything) but at one point I felt they were almost outright annoyed / laughing at me . I would be pissed if they gave me an offer, because that interview was horrible.
@PaigeY5 жыл бұрын
Ah that doesn’t sound enjoyable, well done for getting through it! I think some interviewers are better than others at making the candidates feel at ease... at any rate I’m CERTAIN you did better than you think (same goes for everyone!) and whatever the outcome, you know that you’ve given it your best shot 👍

Wait aren't you supposed to apply to colleges in Year 12? I mean in Asia we give our GCSE equivalents in Year 10 and after an advanced 2-year course we sit for the A-Levels equivalent. Anyway, good luck to you! Just a tip: start researching and exploring beyond the syllabus (like books, lectures, courses, papers) by next year so that you have ample amount of time to build your personal statement.
