Dr. Rathore, you are right in describing the Paik Rebellion as the first war against East India Company commanded by Sri Baxi Jagabandhu the army of chief of Khudha king. But you seriously ignored the great role of the king of Ghumusar (Now Bhanja Nagar, Ganjam) Raja Dhanurjoy Bhanja the father of great Odiya poet Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja & his tribal army who were expert in Gureilla warfare like present day Gorkha Regiment. King of Khorda, Mukunda Dev II surrendered but Raja Dhanurjoy Bhanja fought till his last breathing & was killed in battle field. His son Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanja was sealed inside the secret tunnel of his fort in Kuladgarh & was chocked to death. His poetries are taught in post graduate level in Odia literature. So when you talk about Paik rebellion then how come you ignore the Bhaja kings of Ghumusar whose army was in fore front of the war & fought till death. Baji Rout ( a 10 year old boy who was killed for refusing the order from a British man) And I feel proud that I am from that soil where the 1st British police station of Odisha was burnt to ashes. That was Bhandari Pokhari police station now at Bhandari Pokhari block of Odisha led by the then freedom fighter Ghana sahoo. Whose name is never acknowledged. I feel proud of all the Martyrs of Rakta tirtha ERAM where British commited the second jalianwal bagh like thing. I feel proud for those who supported GANDHIJI'S LAVANA SATYAGRAH in INCHUDI. I proud to be an Indian an Odia always.

1759-1771 Resistance to East India Company's occupation by Jagannatha Gajapati Narayana Deo II, the ruler of Paralakhemundi estate in southern Odisha was the first armed conflict with British in Odisha. The third battle of Jelmur fort was the final open clash where the defenders lost after which the leaders went into hiding, continued their guerrilla warfare and defiance against the British till the natural death of Narayana Deo in 1771. This event is described as the Paralakhemundi Affairs in the British documents. The second phase of the Paralakhemundi Affairs was a rebellion initiated by his successor and son - Goura Chandra Gajapati Narayan Deo I with the help of his paternal uncle from 1799-1804. The East India Company documents note their compulsion for using Six pounder artillery to bring things under their control.

Paika revolt actually was a very great revolt. the intention of paikas were not only to get back their fields they had loosen due to suryaasta aini / law or to take revenge against British company but also to oust the Britishers from Odisha & to remain independent as before. The great warrior Jai rajguru was a stern opponent of foreign rule, as such he acted accordingly. Although he couldn't mobilise the people of out side Odisha but the entire odisha was with him as he was the chief advisor of the most respected thakura raja. The only name of Jagannath was sufficient to gain the support of the people of Odisha. For which & for his personal faith on Shree Jagannath, jai Rajguru personally not in favour to become a subject of Britishers. This tradition was also care fully followed by the greatest warrior Buxi Jagabandhu & other paika army chiefs as well as other paikas. They successfully motivated the common people of Odisha to fight against Britishers describing them as foreigners. Even if , when common people were not very against of marahattas, but seriously against of Britishers. All were even trying not to allow Britishers to enter into Odisha. So odias leaded by paikas under the guidance of Jai rajguru & Buxi Jagabandhu fought valiantly against Britishers nearly two decades for which Britishers could not entered Odisha for a long period & succeded to rule over it only at last.
