DURIAN FEST & FRUIT BUFFET in Bangkok! - Hot Thai Kitchen

Here's a little souvenir from my latest trip to Bangkok! Join me and my brother Eddy (the cameraman) in this durian and fruit festival as I explore the "durian market" and then stuff myself silly at the fruit buffet with piles of durian, mangosteens, rambutans, mango and more!
End of May-June is the peak of fruit season! So naturally, during this time you will find many fruit festivals around town (usually held at shopping malls), and fruit buffet is starting to become a thing! So I went to the biggest one that I know of which was held at Central World.
WANT TO GO NEXT YEAR? HERE ARE SOME TIPS:
This festival takes place at Central World, which is a big shopping mall in the heart of Bangkok in between Siam and Chit Lom BTS station. There are other fruit buffets in other malls, and also locations in Phuket and Chiang Mai, but this seems like the biggest one this year.
It costs 500 baht per person ($15 USD) for a 1.5 hour session, but this would cost less at smaller malls (but fruit selection may not be as good). This is not cheap in Thai money, but I think it is worth it if you're traveling and want to experience all the delicious Thai fruits conveniently in one place. However, if you live in Thailand or if you're in Thailand for long time, I do not think it is worth the price as you can easily buy these fruits and eat them at your own pace for much cheaper. It's also better to not be so ridiculously full at the end!

I was just in Thailand and OMG fruit galore. I tried durian for the first time after hearing so much about it (good and bad). And it was nothing like what I expected! Definitely didn't smell too much like feet, and it tastes better than it smells. :) and I would say rambutan has a similar texture to lychee. I feel like lychee is the sweeter, softer version of rambutan lol. Thailand was amazing and I recommend that everyone goes if they have the chance

OMG!!!!! Durian buffet?!!! For the longest time I disliked durian, the taste and smell especially but it wasn't until my last Thailand trip that I had durian again and OMG I fell in love!!! You are right for those durian haters, they just didn't have the right durian! Now I love anything durian if it's good. I would love to attend this durian buffet! And mangosteen is also my favorite! I was taught if you look at the bottom you can count how many seeds is inside. So the less seeds, the more flesh!

I see these fruits in Honolulu Chinatown. Never knew what they were except for the mangosteen. My jaw dropped at the abundancy and free pick of mangosteen which are very expensive and seasonal here. I only see them for sell at the tea herbal store once in a blue moon . I bought one once and now I know it was not fully ripe. Now I know how to pick and eat them as well as the other fruit which I see year-round and will now definitely try them. Mahalo nui loa for this amazing educating fun video!

I was in Thailand a couple of weeks ago too! I did have a bit of durian but I have to say my favourite food of Thailand are all the khao gaeng stalls. I had a really awesome pumpkin curry from one in Bangkok. 😀 ps. I love the enthusiasm you have in all your videos 👍

durian fest at central world is ended for two week ago.Now only find durian buffet in a mall name "The Mall Tha Phra" 15-21 june 2016 and "The Mall Bangkae" 22-28 june 2016. 479thb per person

For awhile there I was traveling a couple of times a year to Vietnam in 2005 and 2006. While there I was introduced to durian. I loved it. I've heard the stories about the awful smell, but I have never experienced that. And when I've mentioned to people about how I liked durian and they look at me like I've lost my mind.
