As for the face theory, I unknowingly applied this with a unknown new group ride. I didn't want to get dropped, so was very serious and talked very little. I just focused on say upright, cause the riders were unknown, and their skills as well. My buddy who was chatting up, got dropped.

Controlling the facial expression is a great one. I put on the "I am a killer!" Face (because I'm going to crush the workout). Sharp grunts also help me. I have also adopted Amber from TrainerRoad's mantra. "NOT DEAD YET!" I love suffering, especially after coming out on the other end alive! Thanks for another great video!

I think you're right, the fear of pain.. .which is basically the anticipation of it, sets the bar for when to quit.. So as you ride, the pain arrives and this is your pre-set signal that the fear is coming to reality, now that it's arrived, you quit or go slower.

Awesome content. This video is a gem. One thing I’d love is if you did a brief 30 second recap of the main points covered at the end of the video. Im grateful for you and your channel Drew!!

Great video. I have a solid session coming up tomorrow. Will try the serious face approach and see if it gives me a few extra watts.

@@DrewDillmanChannel I think it helped, though there was no masking the pain of a 20km ITT on Saturday
