Overcoming pain is difficult. It dries you up and and stomps you out like a cigarette on the sidewalk outside a sports bar some afternoon in the 80's. I've never experienced the kind of pain that I know is waiting for me, but my good friend Alec has. This is a story about visiting someone on the other side of the road.

Loved this film. My husband died from cancer 8 years ago. We had a whole life to live in front of us. So I make sure that I honour his life by doing just that. Live this life to the fullest guys some people don’t have that simple luxury.

The pain of loss never gets smaller, but eventually your life grows bigger around it and it doesn't hurt as bad anymore.

The crazy thing about pain is that our resistance to it, basically us not wanting it to be there, just amplifies it and makes it even more painful. And on the other hand, learning to be intimate with it and actually welcome the experience, we feel the sensations more but they somehow become less painful. I've long been interested in this and it was especially powerful to meet a man named Byron who suffered from extremely acute pain and have him tell me how we was completely crippled by it for months and through meditation and welcoming the experience of pain he transformed it to such a radical degree that he's able to go back to work, doing physical labour, even though the pain is still totally there. I actually interviewed him and recommend checking it out as his story is totally remarkable... seems like the deepest life lessons always come through the most difficult expeirences.

I and a family member was just speaking of losing someone very special to us. Pain does change things. It's a cycle that must be traveled, the numbness, then the anger, then the sorrow, it's a sad but necessary journey and all you can hope for is to feel and give love again. Pain changes people , for better or worse but stronger nonetheless . For me , my 10 years of childhood were taken away by a sociopthic parent , but she gave me a chance to fight for myself and even if , I wish not so her , I am thankful by the experience and how it shaped me . I relate to this guy a lot

Pain cannot change you, it doesn’t have the mind to change anything. Ask yourself.. what will it change you into, when will it begin? When will it end? Only God can do that Shaffer. God works through your pain and alongside pain God reveals Himself and it is that which changes you. Pain by itself can do nothing. You cannot change you either only God can do that.
