I’m an MD as well working on overcoming TMS. This is inspiring. Since starting this journey is been up and downs. Currently feel stuck. However I have been sharing with my patients the diagnosis of TMS and hoping that they can also get the appropriate help.

Amazing success story. I have urgency and frequent urination for years, especially at night, so much interrupted sleep. I had 2 bladder surgeries, years ago. The body heals, so it can't be that. It is PDP. So much fear attached to this issue and embarrassment. Your story will help a lot of people, and it helps that you yourself are a Doctor. THANK YOU JANET AND DAN. ♥♥♥♥

Janet, Thank you so much for sharing your experience from both personal and medical professional perspectives. I found your story very inspiring as I greatly relate as a nurse experiencing (unfortunately) very similar symptoms. I am in the process of implementing Dan’s recommendations with significant progress over the past few months. Your success story is helping to solidify my belief that these symptoms are all secondary to fear (and continue taking baby steps slowly and freak out less!)

@@janetreed8441Dear Janet, thank you for sharing your story. I was just wondering, did you ever experience any burning sensations? And how did you come to know when you did actually need to pee again. This is something I am struggling with. I hope you don't mind reminding. Thanks 🙏👍
@janetreed8441

@HypnobirthingWithAnja yes a lot of burning. I was very out of tune with my physiology, but if I knew I had just used the toilet and wasn't drinking fluids like crazy, I'd reassure myself and hold off despite the sensation. Within limits- don't allow yourself to get in a lot of pain as that heightens the nervous system. It's more important to have a calm approach rather than obsessing about how many times you are using the toilet. With time, the sensations will fade and you will be able to trust your own physiology again. I hope that helps a bit.

I discovered Dan in 2022 and have been working with a SIRPA therapist in the UK but my recovery is not as quick as yours. Very relatable. I also have bladder and pelvic issues. Physically, my bladder is 'beautiful' (said the doctor), my vagina is fine, except that indeed, I have a hypertonic pelvic floor. However, the physical sensations I get from that are not normal. It arose when I was in an extremely stressful period of my life, when my worst fear came true - getting diagnosed with a progressive chronic illness. My body and mind are stressed out. I need to get out of it but I don't know how. However, I have been offered psychotherapy 2x a week, for people with persistent physical symptoms like chronic pain (with or without physical cause), so I will be in good hands. And indeed, pelvic/bladder issues are more personal so its harder to talk about.

I'm thinking when an elderly person gets these symptoms, pelvic pain is a physical problem as some of us suffer from vaginal atrophy and it's not tms. We need to watch our diet as there are foods that amplify the pain.

Definitely, every person is unique and oestrogen deficiency in menopause can definitely exacerbate urinary symptoms and assessing this is part of the assessment of physical/structural causes of symptoms, and treating them

Thank you for sharing your story, this makes me wonder if constant spotting and tummy pain could be caused by TMS?
@janetreed8441
@janetreed8441 5 күн бұрын
You would first want to get this checked out by a medical doctor to rule out any serious medical condition. Spotting in menopause for example requires a gynecological consultation

@@janetreed8441 I seen 6 gynecologist, had 6 ultrasounds, MRI, all sort of blood tests... And nothing found... Makes me wonder if this could be TMS, as i never heard anyone with similar issue.

Hi, yes I had it about 2-3 times lasted 1-2 weeks each time. I didn't know what it was at the time and didn't really worry about it and it went away by itself. Unfortunately the fear- pain cycle can keep the pain persistent so I recommend you use the mind body approach Dan teaches to get rid of the symptoms (obviously after checking out with your general doc there's nothing physically wrong)

Janet, Thank you for sharing your story. I have a question for you. How did you implement the safety message when you had the urgency. What did you tel yourself when you did go to the toilet and after you where finished?.
@janetreed8441
@janetreed8441 7 күн бұрын
I always recognized the urgency and if I felt the need to go, I did that as often as I needed to. But tried not to worry about it so much. It takes time and a lot of positive self talk and reassurance to go from completely panicking to being indifferent. This can only happen when you really believe you are actually ok and while the sensation is awful, it will fade quicker the less attention you give to it.

Hi Dan, I just bought your book and your audiobook as well. Janet’s symptoms were triggered by stress, mine were probably triggered by fracturing my pelvis. I’m gathering it’s still TMS though, despite what started it?
@greenbeanthetwo
@greenbeanthetwo 7 күн бұрын
I didn’t fracture my pelvis, but I did have a lot of pelvic/bladder problems after years of eating foods super high in oxalates. Initially the pain was from that, then the fear ingrained caused similar pain for years. It definitely can be PDP after an initial injury or exogenous problem. The body itself is never the problem :)

Janet, since you are a doctor who was diagnosed with IC, but WITHOUT Hunner's Ulcers, would you say that IC WITH Hunner's is a different beast? Or, even with Hunner's ulcerations, could it still be TMS?
@janetreed8441
@janetreed8441 5 күн бұрын
I think regardless of having hunnners ulcers or not, stressing about and catastrophizing will always amplify the pain. I suggest doing the FIT assessment and seeing how your symptoms are behaving and if they behaving like TMS, these principles will certainly help you
@iamjustsaying1
@iamjustsaying1 5 күн бұрын
@janetreed8441 That's been a big part of the problem. My pain issues don't move around (always in the exact same two places: bladder and left lower back), often wakes me up when sleeping (IC pain), and so on, and have been with me for decades, so Ive just learned to live with both, although its greatly impacted what I can do . I fit the profile ( past trauma), but the symptoms don't neatly fit the assessments. That's why it's been so confusing. I don't want to gaslight myself. Or, maybe the back is TMS, but the Hunner's IC isn't? But still, the pain never moves around, doesn't improve when I'm doing something fun like a vacation, etc. I long ago gave up catastrophizing, and had to lean into acceptance. But, ive always retained hope that something could come along and offer relief, which is why I'm trying to assume these issues could be TMS, in spite of not fitting the assessments very neatly. Thanks for responding.
@janetreed8441
@janetreed8441 5 күн бұрын
My pain didn't move much either, but the quality of the pain (burning, pressure, sharp, dull etc) did change. And the variation from day to day and morning to evening was significant. But remember you don't have to fit all of the requirements of the FIT criteria to benefit from this work- my pain for example got worse with vacation and with exercise. Maybe if you get a TMS coach they can help you work through your specific symptoms to get relief. You can also email or have a virtual appointment with Howard Schubiner (also MD and author if unlearn your pain) to gather evidence for yourself. Reducing panic and fear will almost always help reduce chronic pain and joining Dan's support group can maybe also put you in with a group of like minded people to help you on your journey

I think you need to add one more criteria to your list of whether this is most likely TMS. Almost every single story 99.9 of them are people who wake up one day with issues during stressful periods of their life. I understand your take on all injuries healing but the one question they should ask themselves on there is did you have an injury ? No? Were you very stressed or anxious about something on onset ? Yes ? Most likely TMS. Whether pain travels imo is not a definite criteria that 99.9 points to TMS more so on the flip side are those two questions. I’ve listened to every single one of your success stories and noticed this pattern is blatantly obvious. When injury has occurred it’s imo a toss up whether this is all TMS or not, years of post injury can definitely cause issues with the NS but so can chronic unresolved injury. I wish these lines were clearer at least mentioned and not brushed off as everything heals itself across all educators of TMS.
