Been there as well. I shot over the back of a 170 inch 11 pt. buck last year at 30 yards using 40 yard crosshair, would have been my 7th of 160 or better. Buck fever still gets us all even after 40 yrs. of hunting. We are all in the same boat, so Welcome aboard my friend and good luck this season.

We've all been there, no shame in your game. Thanks for sharing and being honest with us about the miss. It will happen/has happened to all of us at one time or another if we're honest. Be well, Mike.

I loved this one Doc! Brings back memories of my two misses last season! Archery deer hunting even with high speed modern crossbows is still a challenge! At least your getting chances as I’ve yet to poll the trigger on my BARNETT! But I’m holding out hope! 🎯

I feel your pain; been there, done that. I suppose that is why we call it hunting and not simply killing. Thanks for sharing the experience. Mistakes are great when lessons are learned; thanks for sharing that one with us. Just bought a 400 XP tonight. I shot her at the shop; dead on at 20 yards. Plan to put a few more bolts through her and get out on Tuesday. Thanks again for posting. God bless.

This is important for archers to understand. It only takes a little twig to radically change arrow flight. I hear all of time "You hunt with a crossbow?" might as well use a rifle" Not true! Arrows that hit even small twigs deflect just as much when shot from my crossbow as they did from my compound bow.

Just bought the same crossbow, shooting Gold Tip Ballistic 425 bolts. First cross hair sighted in at 20 yards, but surprisingly, the second cross hair sighted in at 40 yards, wow, such a strong shooting power!

Yes but shooting from tree stand 2nd cross hair is on at 30 yards. I've tested and you can see it at kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYaqnXiirc59faM

Stuff like this will happen. Nice that you were able to figure it out by reviewing your video. I got a 7 point buck this season but found that I had hit him pretty far back. Did he maybe spring forward instead of dropping at the shot or do I suck that bad? I'll never know. When shot at my target later that day my Excalibur Exocet 200 was right on.

I have taken a lot of deer and a few coyotes.coons and etc.. in the past 2 years with my XP400 since asking you about yours. The first thing I did was put a Lumix speed ring scope on mine and set the first dot at 30 yards because thats what they are calibrated for with a bow shooting 400 feet and a total arrow weight of 400 grains including a 100 grain point. The bolt will be 1/12 to 2 inches high at 20yards dead on at 30 and your scope dots will be dead on out to 60 or maybe farther but 60 is as far as I shoot. Set the speed ring to 380 on the scope that works perfect for my XP400 with the set up I mentioned

Thanks so much for your videos! I just got my first crossbow XP400! Everyone makes them sound so scary! But with common sense safety, it seems as safe as any method of take. One question. Is it possible to load a bolt without putting my fingers in the “triangle of danger”?
@vameathunter2771
@vameathunter2771 Жыл бұрын
Congrats and yes, I load my bolt from the top using only 3 middle fingers making sure it's not in the way of cocked string and slide it in but make sure it's all the way in. I hope this helped God bless and have a great season.

So the abrasion of the paint surface of the CNC metal rail really does not affect the accuracy. Maybe we should look for problems from the environment or the arrow support, right?
@vameathunter2771
@vameathunter2771 2 жыл бұрын
If your crossbow's accuracy is not consistent, I think you should make sure all the bolts are tight and the string does not have too much wear signs.

Can’t accurately determine if that twig/branch/leaf covered your target. If it did, like other comments on your site, any obstruction like that will throw your shot off. Rifle, bow, crossbow will be deflected. Sometimes you just can’t take the shot. It’s called hunting.

To tell the truth, the white lines on your xp400 metal track are the cause of paint wear, right?
