Very well done! I like how you share your honest thoughts and don’t gloss over shortcomings like most fanboys. And I am a fanboy. I’m typing this on an 11” M4 iPad Pro, and I have a 13” M4 iPad Pro, and MacBook Pro 14” M3. Was thinking about the iPad Mini 7, just to have a smaller device for reading, surfing the web, and watching KZbin. Like you, I just don’t see it being worth the money, especially with all the shortcomings. I have big hands, so I really don’t see that much difference in size between the mini and my 11” pro. And with a smaller screen, you sacrifice screen real estate my older eyes need. Thanks for the awesome video!

20 years ago I ripped my 800ish CD collection into iTunes as Apple Lossless on an iMac. Eventually that iMac turned into a Mac mini and the Library first moved to a HD and is now a SSD. I'm on my 4th Mac mini-an M4. The computer has always been attached digitally to my audio system. A lower res subset of that Library resides on my iPhone so I can listen where ever-including my car. For quite a few years I've purchased new music on the iTunes Store. I have no need for streaming. I ditched all of my vinyl in 1984 when I started buying CDs.

Sorry does this new update work on AirPods Pro gen 1 as well? You keep just saying, and the title, “AirPods pro”. Please change the title appropriately if pro gen 1 doesn’t work.

MacMini M4 or a Roon Nucleus One? A question I seriously pondered, I decided on the latter, unless someone can convince me otherwise within the next 96 hours.

you never did an update about your ipad mini situation.... I was considering buying this with the ipad 10 but it's almost as expensive as the ipad 10. The price is insane at least to me. The one upside is if you have applecare for the iPad then the magic keyboard is also covered. I still really can't see spending that much though $300 is insane when ipad 10 can be purchased for $279

I’ve been doing this for years. Unfortunately, my iPod Classic 160Gb holds a lot more music than my Apple Ultra 2 so that’s my go to music player.

It sounds very, very good out of the box. Looks nice, & has an aux. input. Unfortunately, the C-port connection was immediately bad also. Customer support was contradictory between phone, email, & a return through them was just a pain at this point in my life. So I returned it to the store. Granted, I got it at Ross for $50, so idk … It’s currently on sale at Verizon for $119, so I might try again. But I’m a little leery of dealing with the brand. Still, it’s very nice, has a true stereo output which is unique - and the capability to pair 2 identical in stereo also. Tempting. I might just have gotten a bad one.

I've watched and liked a lot of your videos over the years. I can tell this one isn't your best. So many cuts and snips. It's just messy and quite disorienting actually. Were you int*xicated in the video? Please do better. I know you can. Peace!

These annoy me constantly building up sweat on my ears because of how poor the air flow design is. I don't even use these anymore they suck so much. All i do is game... Tip if you use those rubber ear cushion covers and take them off and let them sit for a week take a look at them. You're going to be disgusted at the sight of them. This is clearly a design flaw!

I have a pair of soundcore space one headphones. They were just $99. They are pretty good sounding. The noise cancelling ability is better than every other headphone i have owned or tried. You dont hear anything other than the music.

It could be that apple did not have enough time to make major changes other than make all USB-C before the end of 2024. Since, i would assume it lacked sales due to its initial price tag. I’m guessing Apple didn’t give af when they just added more colors and USB-C for release. lol

Absolutely not. Its over priced. It’s also a good keyboard and makes a great iPad stand and charger. I’ve had one since 2018 and occasionally use it to type things, but mostly I have it setup next to my monitor plugged into a USB C and when I need a second monitor I just plop the iPad onto the keyboard/Stand and use it for that while the iPad simultaneously charges up. But $350 is steep. I think it’s worth $175 and if Apple priced them like that, they would sell a ton of them.

Thing is, appreciation of sound is like your vision. Everyone's version of red is unique to the them. The best speaker depends on how your brain interprets the sound. This is why there are people vehemently liking one particular brand. Add to that, brand bias, and the best becomes harder to determine. I think double blind masking would be the best way to do the test. You hear it, but you don't add bias by seeing the actual product. Of course hearing acuity should be added to the test; if you have lost the ability to hear certain frequencies, your interpretation of sound is different. Bottom line: whichever you think is best, is...for you. Just my take after 72 years of music enjoyment and hearing this argument a number of times. We're chasing our tails arguing about the innate senses each of us uniquely has, hopefully unaltered by noise pollution, injury or disease.

I always spent more for storage on my previous iPads (1TB on my 2018 iPad Pro) … but didn’t feel the need this time around; so went with 256 GB… Now that we have thunderbolt 3, a small external SSD would solve all my storage woes for a tiny fraction of the upgrade price.

I got one with my M4 and I really love it but completely agree with the downsides, including the price and the material. I did get a skin for mine and really like it. I also don’t tend to jump from tech to tech so I’m settled in with my M4 for a long time.

I would totally go caseless with my iPhone 14 but I drop it once a day so far it’s good I only use a case on it with risen bumps and sides though I will say when I did use it caseless for 3 days I dropped it and it was still perfectly fine even if it dropped right on the screen face front to the floor

Two responses: (1) I'm a Machead. I have an iPad Mini I love (mach 5), I never saw the need to enhance it with expensive Apple peripherals. It's in an inexpensive, sturdy Zagg clamshell case with a built-in Bluetooth keyboard and that's enough to make it function as a great mini-laptop for all my road-warrior needs. I would treat an iPad Pro similarly except…(2) They ARE so expensive. My significant other (also a lifelong Machead) wanted a large screen for reading music; I wanted a large screen to keep at her place for use when away from my iMac. So after some careful scouting, I got each of us a Chinese budget option, a model being sold worldwide, currently and prolifically: the GT40 Pro Max from 7keTree. And we both quickly fell in love with it. Android 14, 14.6" screen, 16GB RAM, 1TB storage, Mediatek chipset, solidly built; comes bundled with a likewise sturdy folio case-stand and a Bluetooth-trackpad keyboard. The whole works: Less than $240. Beautiful screen resolution, responsive UI, versatile as you'd hope it would be, powerful processor for media and video calling. "Universal" model (meaning Play Store access; some Chinese models don't have that) and no bloatware. If it's not quite as elegant as an iPad, it's not *in*elegant either. Took a bit of head-shifting to recalibrate my Mac reflexes to Android, to learn to navigate the different key-mapping (for things like em-dashes and ellipses), to discover "hidden" features and functions…but that occupied only a few days. Otherwise it's a sleek bit of kit that does everything I want it to do. (I miss the eco-system a bit, but my iPhone is always at hand, I can access the iCloud calendar on any Android browser [all you need is your password], and with universal access cloud storage like Dropbox, I can easily work across platforms, seamlessly moving from the Android tablet to my iMac to my iPad mini.) So, for me, anyway, the bigger question is not whether Apple's Magic Keyboard is worth $350. It's why even think about such an expendtiture, when you can have just as productive and delightful an experience via Android, tablet and all, for over $100 less than the cost of the iPad peripheral? I maxed out the specs on my recent iMac because it was necessary for me to have all possible power and storage within MacOS. But the very architecture of tablet life makes platform adherence far less necessary. And the GT40 ProMax ticks all my power, performance and storage boxes. Your mileage may vary.

I think that the virtue of the pods is that because so many many people can be seen wearing them all over the place such as in Starvbux and fast food places what have you, the stigma of the 'hearing aid' presence is now absent..Whereas, if we see a person wearing common hearing aids, we tend to dislike that 'look', especially the 'behind the ear type' as opposed to the 'all in the ear' type. In other words, with the I-pods we just blend in with all the other I-pod wearers who are usually just using them as un-tethered ear buds for, say, KZbin, or their phone, not necessarily that they have hearing loss.. Again, the old stigma of the 'hearing aid look' is finally lost.. Prob I currently have is I bought a Nokia 2780 dumb phone, which is 4g and has blue tooth. But I don't think its screen has the capability of showing the slider controls smart phones like yours have...I.E. it will 'pair' with the pods, but it may not be capable of controlling them..I own near new Signa behind the ear hearing aids I got through Medicare..But I hate them..For one, they're not rechargeable and the battery replacement sucks..Also wrapping them around the back of your ear then getting them plugged in your ear is a big big drag.. And that rocker-control has a nebulous feel to it.. ugh !! 50 years from now all this will be a joke when hearing loss itself, and tinnitus (I too have) will have been cured.. But blue toothed I-pods certainly are giving standard hearing aids a run for their money and can only improve over time !

I use Apple Music’s iCloud match feature as it is similar to iTunes Match. As a backup, I have my music library on Plex as well; plus a slow build of a FLAC version of it. Not familiar with Roon, but I could tell I would enjoy it if I didn’t utilize two options already. Plexamp has no problem with AirPlay to HomePod. While you definitely do not get the experience I have seen with Roon, Plex’s music streaming side is pretty straight forward and plays whatever file you upload to your server for access. I’d be interested to see your setup on Roon, but for my setup on Unraid I’d have to use another PC.

Hi Jason, can you tell me the most affordable way to play lossless audio over wifi from my Samsung S23 Ultra to my Devielet Phantom Gold? I don't understand why when using Apple Music or Tidal, I can not stream over WiFi to the Phantom. I am sort of doing it through Tidal using Bubble UPnP but that's so much hassle going through the apps.

My M4 & my ASUS windows computer are both Connected to my Vizio 5.1 Soundbar & 2 %" 4K UHDTV. So I have surround sound when available. Many things on U-Tube and most TV Programs are Brodcast in 5.1 Surround today. I can also Mix 5.1 with Davinc Resolve. Dolby Atmos too if I ever get the No how and Equipment.
