Did you buy a wiring harness that has reverse light/ tail light or did you wire that in yourself?

I purchased a Painless Wiring Harness for the Vette - however, for the LED taillights I made my own harness.

I recently bought an 81 Vette and only the outside taillights come on with the headlights. My signal lights and caution lights both work with the outside taillights. The inside taillights only come on when I put it in reverse. Is that the way it should be ?

So I think that is original equipment - I wired mine so that all four lights came on with the brake light and the the center lights came on for reverse. outside were blinkers and running.

www.autolumination.com/switchback.html - here is the website I purchased the 1157 color switch red / white led light. It is a pretty cool little bulb that makes the reverse light white and the brake light red in one bulb.

Question.. So in order to have all four lights on, its not just a matter of the bulb change it has to be an entire wiring change?

yes - you will have to change the wiring - but it is super easy.

Awesome Video and Awesome Idea! I Always thought it would be nice to have the inboard taillights also be running lights and Great how You figured that out! Thanks for the link I ordered the red white LEDs and going to get sockets and do the same to my 74 Corvette! Did the 1157 sockets fit into the reverse light housings no problem or did You have to modify anything?? Thanks for this info and video!

These are what I used for my 71 for the brakelights: www.amazon.com/dp/B00HWS7XGW/?tag=2402507-20 I used these for my back up lights: www.amazon.com/dp/B00HWS7XGW/?tag=2402507-20 And used this for the turn signal flasher: www.amazon.com/dp/B001DGH06M/?tag=2402507-20 (2-prong like original, direct swap) Then you have LED's for all lights.

Hello, nice job on the car....lucky being able to do a father/son project! I wanted to ask.....I followed your link to the switchback bulbs at autolumination.com, but I'm not sure which one you used. Did you use the 60 bulb or 48 bulb red/white......or did you use something else. And you did say it was an 1157 bulb, correct? I'm asking because I have a '73 Vette and I love the look of the reverse light in your video and wish to do the same to mine. Thanks.
