I finally managed to figure out what MSP stood for. It's MultiWii Serial Protocol. It's hilarious to me that the Wii remote played such a large role in making multirotors accessible to the hobbyist.

I use both ELRS and mLRS on my prototype quad. Matek mLRS has an alternative firmware that makes it process only mavlink data without RC control info (just like SIK telemetry radios). So mLRS transmitter module is connected directly to PC (ground station) via USB, whereas my radio controller uses ELRS

A very interesting video and I am definitely going to investigate with aim to trying out. It seems better performance with less complexity regarding control and telemetry links with radio and a ground station. Thanks for insight. A video on its use with Mission Planner and MAVLink messages for companion computers would be great.

I've been using the Matek mLRS hardware for a couple of weeks as a telemetry radio replacement, and as far as I'm concerned it basically makes SiK radios/RFD900s totally redundant - you get better performance at a much lower price with mLRS. I've just added an external battery to my ground modem (the Matek Tx module) so I can connect my GCS with mission planner via bluetooth to the Tx module which connects to the aircraft - no more USB at all!

In fact I have a quite complete (I think) grou,d station : video analog/openhd on 15" screen and telemetry on a 10" tablet, If I loose video I can fly with telemetry and vice/versa. Thanks again

Second this. Matek is dodgy. Their airspeed sensors are completely useless and inaccurate, flight controllers are fragile, customer support questionable, etc.

There are ELRS receivers with 500mW telemetry available. Foxeer has them, perhaps other brands do as well. I don't really see a significant advantage, time will tell.

Plus you can use some transmitters in reverse as a receiver, so you can have a 1W telemetry ELRS "receiver" if you so desire.

@@Painless360 you show off elrs as mostly an RC contron protocol, while mavlink rc actually pushes quite a bit of telemetry through the elrs link. I would be curious to see how data rates compare between the two systems. The video kinda made it seem like you were comparing normal elrs telemetry with mlrs.

If you wanted minimal latency for FPV multicopter control and a great Mavlink feed and had a spare UART, is there any problem with using a separate MLRS system for the telemetry as a lighter, neater alternative to the current Mavlink Rxs that are sold now?
