Hello, the distance I kept is as you were beside me and making you a private seminar. The head is 1/35, less than 10mm. A couple of years before I had attended some seminars from a just one-meter distance and believe me this video is much better. Even I was near to the artist I could not see clearly where the brush was painting as his head was very close to the piece. In this video, my main target is to show the new technique and how easily can be done. A very important factor that in close up video neglected is the mixing proportions (here you can see clearly how I mixed everything). That is why I put the sound add-on. It is impossible to paint in this scale and talk at the same time. If you hear what I am doing it is very easy to have such a result. Just tried. I have also included where to put the highlights...The most important is to see the consistency of the paints and how I paint than where because even if you where near me you could not see any better. Practice and practice. Follow my instructions and the face will be painted very well!

Efaristo Poli ! I will use this tutorial for my next 1/35 figures. As you know painting face its not easy does not matter the scale!

Good pointers on this tutorial. Yes the distance is a bit of an issue but i have watched quite a few tutorials on face painting and still struggle with a good finish. I think the way forward are the resin heads as they seem to hold more detail on the paint work and of course the features.. I have found the the original heads on the plastic model figures seem to have a more pitted finish, either that or it's my technique ??

Hello Sean, thank you for your comments! As I have already explained my target was the technique using the limited number of Vallejo Panzer Aces colors and Glaze Medium. Not to show how to paint the face. How to mix the colors and how much diluted. But if you read the instructions on how to put the highlights and the shadows will be a great help (included in the video). As far as concerned the quality of the heads. A lot of plastic heads are ok and can be used as they are. In some cases, you have to improve them with the scriber and Epoxy Putty or paint them directly using advanced painting techniques (drawing all the details and making some contrasts as a Painter Artist). In contrary, the resin heads help with the painting as the sculpting details offer you the best "Canvas" you can have. Hornet heads as the Alpine heads are the best in the market and definitely will update your figure. Hornet heads have a lot of choices, Alpine less. But one big advance in Alpine Miniatures range is the two heads option in each figure kit they produced! Soon we will do a video close up using this technique!

It's all practice. There is an element of natural flair too. I look forward to seeing the the video.

Hello again. Of course, the talent is important. But I can give you at least 3 Master names in figure painting that in the start were very very bad. Believe me! And now they are some of the best. But with a lot of practice and they were studied near to a good teacher! These days we have a lot of very good DVD and the oppurtunity to attend workshops, seminars etc...

well I've just made another mess of 2 Tamiya figure faces. all going ok/ish till on one i put agrax earthshade on it an the paintwork just pitted up and the second I used Vallejo game color No 73.204 and the poor chap looks as if he had a day under the sunbed !!

Hello Sean, this is a wash. There is no easy cut way...To get better results you must dilute more the wash and use it as a filter and control the color with the brush . The wash is taking advance the sculpting (what sculpting in Tamiya heads?, I suppose 1/35 scale?). You must do very harsh highlights with almost pure Light Flesh so with the filter you will get the things right. If you wish to send me an email with photos to check your progress and let you know what is wrong. mrblackpublications@yahoo.com

Great videos. How long do you usually wait between steps to let the paint dry?

I have in mind to do a new one with a close up only to the head but without showing the palette. I will only mention what I am using.

As noted by others, this video has little value as far as instruction because no one can see what you’re doing on the face....maybe next time a split screen or screen in screen? One on the paint & the other a close up of the face?

Good video but pretty much a waste without being able to see the model. Try shooting from across the street next time :-)

Just a thought why not have a song by Dire Straits called so far away from me.

I know. The idea was to show also what mixes I used with what dilution so I had to have all in the plan. We will have in mind to do a more close and focusing using also an embedded monitor of the palette shooting in the same time with the painting.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but I can not see any detail in this video. The face should be the size of the pallet you use for the paint. If you don't have a camera that can do that, you might as well give up making videos. Sorry, just my opinion.

Viewers don't waste your time with this poor video. There is better vids on youtube with closeups that you can actually see what the painter is doing!
