Prep work. Remove outlets covers. Tape off area. Use gloves when using tsp as per instructions. Finish with clean water. Medium grit sanding. Primer. Wait for 2 hours to dry. 2 coats of alkylate based paint using a 3 inch nap roller.

I was wondering if I would be able to paint textured tile. The builder of our home used floor tile for our backsplash! Help!

Hi Lisa, That was a similar issue in this home. A dated backsplash that is pricey to remove, so we painted it. Take a photo of your backsplash and include a closeup shot. If you bring it your local Ace they can provide some painting options that suit your tile texture.

Hi Anna, So stone can be more porous then a tile backsplash. We suggest you take a picture of the tile and then a real close up shot of the stone and bring it into your neighborhood Ace so they can give you options.

I think it would be same porosity as painting brick, so don’t see why not. Use a specialty primer for all surfaces including brick.

Hi Lisa, Apologies i the delay to respond. This was a tricky one and we wanted to ask a few people. The good folks at Rust-Oleum have a suggestion for you! A Bullseye 123 Primer will adhere to glass, and is available in a brush-on format. They suggest allowing the primer to dry overnight before painting. Full cure / adhesion of the primer to the surface will then take 7-10 days. After the primer is applied, the paint color, finish, etc. is up to you and your preference. However, a glossier finish will typically be easier to clean and keep clean. Hope this all helps! Again, sorry for the delay in a response and good luck!

No, but you can get peel and stick tile backsplash for that. You could also get shelf paper and trim it out with wood or aluminum trim using double sided stick tape.

I have travertine tile back splash I want to paint white. What are your recommendations?

Hi Fawn, As travertine is a limestone tile you would treat like any other tile. Clean thoroughly with soap and water, rinse well and prime with a latex bonding primer like Royal Sealing & Blocking interior & exterior primer, INSL-X STIX Primer OR KILZ ADHESION primer. For a backsplash, you can use a latex topcoat like Clark+Kensington interior. I would recommend at least a satin finish, but preferably a semi-gloss as that will be the easiest to clean long term. You might want to note that latex paints dry to the touch quickly, but they take a bit longer to fully cure and harden. Refrain from washing the newly painted surface or checking the adhesion for at least a week or two after painting. Hope this helps! You are welcome to take a closeup photo of your backsplash and bring it into your local Ace for them to give you further input.

Hi There, Yes, you can prime it again and paint it. But make sure you do the same prep like a deep cleaning, sanding so it can adhere and remain durable in your kitchen.

Hi Brigitte, Yes, you can use the Clark+Kensington Cabinet Door and Trim paint for this project. You'll want to properly prepare the surface and use a bonding primer, such as the Insl-X Stix primer. Hope this helps!

Yes. First, you need to clean the tile. Then the paint will stick. A little light sanding won’t hurt, but is not necessary.

I painted ugly gold tile that was installed on the wall as part of a tile floor we had removed. Used an alcohol based primer. Turned out great. I bet a back solace would turn out and last as well.
