did a nice job for a metallic single stage. I didnt even see a drop coat. But you did go pretty fast and fairly dry which helped.

Thanks for the comments… I wish I would have slowed down a bit in the rod cause there is some tiger stripping… but it’s a solid “10-footer” which is perfect for a 16 yr olds 1st car 😎

Thank you! Don’t look to close it’s a 7-10 foot paint job… there is some dry spots where I either moved to fast or the 3-6mph wind dried the paint before it laid down heavy enough… but it turned out pretty dang good for a 16 yr old 1st time driving car!

Its better to spray the panels as close to vertical as you can, stand them up and spray light coat to avoid runs.

Im curious why you didn’t remove the seals on the fenders and slightly leave the fenders attached with a couple of bolts (or removed completely) and then spray it? It’s likely the paint will peel on the fender seals.
@johnsonmotors435 Жыл бұрын
The short answer is: that is a great idea we just didn’t want to take the time to do it. We got to the point that we realized we were going much further than we intended to anyway with this car as a 1st time driver vehicle… also the car had at some point been repainted the yellow color and had already been painted over the seals and had not flakes off so we were cheap. Also the likely hood of having to replace the seals all together if we separated the fenders. If my boy manages to not wad this car up in his first years of driving we will likely do a proper full disassembly and restoration of the exterior. Thank you for watching and thank you for your comments!

@@johnsonmotors435 I completely understand. I just noticed you had gone through the trouble of removing the hood and truck lid so I was curious why you didn’t remove the fenders. I think the fender seals are cheap. My very first car at 16 years old was a 1964 bug. I bought it from a junkyard without a motor. My dad and I bought a motor and we rebuilt it together and we rebuilt all suspension. This was a great bonding experience for me. I had that bug throughout my 20’s when it was stolen! I wish I still owned that car.

@@TonyLiveTV that’s an awesome story/memory… thank you for sharing… That was the whole Genesis to making this KZbin channel about the process of building the bug was to get the boys involved in a project they could not only learn in but spend time with me(dad) and their grandpa(seen in several episodes! It’s been awesome doing these things with the boys!

That's a neat color for your car. I have a '72 Standard in its original paint, and though I may have it redone, will likely keep it yellow. You did a very nice job keeping the metallic even. Nice job!

I had a yellow 71 super beetle stock automatic stick shift paid 700 bucks in 1980 for it. 1st year super beetle is special. Inlet to carb popped off. Watched it burn to the ground. 9 beetles later I have 65 sunroof bahama blue sunroof from California. Bought off original owner with folder of pretty much all the maintenance she had done. Dealer window sticker. I paid $2100.00 Did I pay to much?😊
