I really enjoyed your build. Great ideas on how to get it done. The Altoids can door was perfect. I can't wait to see it in action.....Take care, Bluefin.

you seem like a really nice guy and I hope you won't mind my comments or recommendations. The Altoids can is kind of ingenious if you understand it limits the size of the wood you can burn. I know you don't want to burn a too big of a piece anyway. But you're going to have to process the wood pretty small to get through that little opening. But it is workable. I thought I was witnessing a train wreck when you started to put it near the top. You don't want it near the top because smoke will come out of it. But by turning it and putting it the way you did is an excellent idea even for venting. However, using the pipe you are using you will never be able to vent it good enough. That pipe is way too big. You want an even flow with the intake vent just smaller than the outtake. That will create a faster vacuum to draw the Smoke Out. Grilling it in the top of the can is a mistake. You can do it but it doesn't work out the way you wanted to. For one it's going to put part of the pipe below the smoke line in the top and it will force a lot of the smoke to go lower in the can than it should and you will lose a lot more of the Heat. Also had you use the can and drill the hole in the bottom of the can in the very center of the top. Then use J-B Weld around the inside and outside. You could have gone to the automotive center and got some heat proof expandable hosing for exhaust pipe I'm not sure what they call it. It's about a foot-and-a-half long when you buy it but it stretches out to about three or four feet. And it's hot enough to work on your exhaust pipe to your muffler. You could attach it to the can and then used another can at that end and then adding another hose however many times you need to to get any length you need. Certainly enough to get it outside of a door of a tent. Especially if you put heat exhaust tape around the part where it goes through the door. The legs are pretty cool. But you're probably going to want to cut off some of the bolt sticking through on the inside. And you're going to want a bottom inside the can. Like part of a grill or something to keep the wood from directly touching the can. I think that would be a pretty good little lightweight heater that might keep you warm and cold weather if you're out and about in the woods. As long as you have the outtake of the pipe away from your flammable tent. And with the flex hose you can bend the very top around so rain and snow won't come in. Or you could just attach another can with holes cut down the sides. Just an idea. It might make a good spark arrestor too.

Great video, A few helpful tips that I found the hard way. Make sure you burn the galvanized pipe outdoors before using in any confined space. The coating isn’t something you want to breath in. Also it looked liked you used lock nuts, they have a plastic bushing that’s keeps them tight and will burn in short time leaving the hardware loose. The most helpful tip is you can use pellet stove pipe for the chimney. Rated much higher than the dryer vent. Plus it’s smaller at 2.5 or 3” instead of 4”. Nevertheless great video. Hopefully some day I can watch the second version with some modifications.

If you want you can also get another paint can. Use a can opener to get rid of both sides. Drill holes on the top and bottom of the can side ways. Drill holes on the bottom of your main stove. You'll have a wood gas stove secondary burn! :)

That looks pretty cool!!!! If you could find one skinny fire brick, the kind that's only about an inch thick, I think I'd lay it in the bottom for some weight, and to protect the bottom. ....I know you fired it up already.... how did it do??? 👍🏻

Thanks Chris! I looked for one, but I got too impatient lol. It did good tonight! Fire went out a little too easy though. Maybe a view more vent holes in front will help.

Fire brick or carry a small bag of sand. You can pour it out when you're done with it. Nothing bigger than a medium sized Ziploc baggie... my guess is you can use dirt from the ground in a pinch just make sure there's not a lot of biological material in it. All it has to do is insulate the bottom or put the sand in your altoids cans. It may ventilate it

Id say flip the lid to lock open facing up... reduce the chance of sparks/coals popping out and going down. Up would deflect them back and into the chamber. Plus you get more light
