Thank you for bringing Jean Pederson to us! At first I thought it was Jean Peterson, an acrylic realist painter from Edmonton, but Jean Pederson was first class! Being a watercolour artist myself it was delightful to watch a well seasoned (expert who REALLY knows her stuff) artist's demo!

Materials notes The artist, Ms. Pederson, wets the front and back of her paper so the tension is the same on both sides without prestretching and paper lays flat. She uses a “Gatorfoam” board (light-weight hard foam) that the paper sticks to. She’ll lift paper and rewet the back with brush or spray bottle. Ms. Pederson uses the biggest brush possible for as long as possible at each stage: 1”, ¾” ¼” flats; and rounds #10 #6 and #2 for details on paper Arches 140 lb. Using warm and cool transparent paints to glaze wet in wet many times gives luminosity. Usually she uses Holbein pigments. Here she used a warm and cool of each primary color: yellow (Aureolin yellow & Quinacridone Gold ) red (Quinacridone Magenta & Napthal Red) and blue ( Pthalo Blue and Pthalo Turquoise) She stays away from sedimentary - granular - ‘earth sourced’ - colors in glazing.

What are the two yellows you are using, and do you use the same colors for a young child’s painting?
