Now I wish my current project, Blood Bowl Treemen, had long wavy hair.

I love that you created the realistic halos of shine, and your colours were really gorgeous, showing the mixing of them is absolutely painting gold. I understand the use of yellow in relation to the clothing and the purpose of the dotted extreme highlights but to me they shattered the pattern of the light you'd made. I'm going back to your back catalogue to focus on your palette and your colour/pigment mixing, talented work carefully presented

Great tutorial Kujo I've seen a lot of redhair tutorials, and most are a dogs breakfast, all over the place and not appealing. This one is a keeper, thanks for making it.

Ireland has the highest number of red-haired people per capita in the world, with the percentage of those with red hair at around 10%. In Scotland, around 6% of the population has red hair, with the highest concentration of red head carriers in the world found in Edinburgh, making it the red head capital of the world.

Question if you where to paint the ginger hair in a cold tone what colors would you use?
@KujoPainting7 ай бұрын
Hmm, I suppose it depends on what you're trying to achieve. Can you give me a bit more information?
@KujoPainting7 ай бұрын
I'm not sure if you want to just reduce the vibrancy of the colour or actually use cold colours to represent the orange.
@KujoPainting7 ай бұрын
You could use coldER colours, like more of a dark purpely brown for your base then a less intense orange for the mid tone, like a coppery orange. then maybe some kind of light green to build up the highlights.
@BinxyBrown7 ай бұрын
So ginger hair is pretty saturated, in a cold light it would be slightly less vibrant but it will still be orange, basically you would highlight up with white or a very subtle pastel blue but the end result is that the shadows will be more warm and orange and your highlight will be a flatter more desaturated orange

Thanks, Kujo! How'd you paint stubble this way? Say you're painting a trollslayer and they have a mohawk and you want to create the illusion the hair is cropped on the sides of the scalp?
@KujoPainting7 ай бұрын
No probs, good question. So for stubble, it depends a little on the scale of the model. For very small figures I would just glaze over the area you want the stubble effect with a darker version of the hair colour. So in this case (ginger hair) I'd make a glaze with a dark brown and lightly draw it over the areas I want to create stubble, usually over the jaw but in your case, the side of the head. You'd have to build it up over a few layers until you get the required effect. For a larger model I'd do the same thing but also add lots of tightly grouped dots using stippling to the give the area some visible hair texture. Hope that helps!
@eab227 ай бұрын
@@KujoPainting thank you! Would you mix this with the skin tone?
@KujoPainting7 ай бұрын
You don't need to mix it. The glaze is transparent so if you think about it, the skin tone actually shines through from underneath. It essentially mixes the two colours together for you automatically if that makes sense.

Had a Girlfriend with this colour hair when i was younger ... Looks Gorgeous :D .. How long did this entire process take you and do you use any form of retarder in your paint / palette to keep your paints a little more liquid-y I've found kimera really thick and it's hard to keep them from drying out, even on a wet palette.
@KujoPainting7 ай бұрын
I don't use retarders, typically I just put a drop of water on my palette and use that when I want to thin the paint. Not sure what sort paper you're using for your wet palette. I know a lot of the store bought ones use quite a porous paper, I find baking paper works a lot better, the water doesn't sink through it, it's much easier to control the consistency that way. I'm not sure how long it took, filming things adds a lot of time on top so it's hard to give a meaningful estimate but probably about an hour or so.
