Beautiful work here. How i started wrapping my head around glazing and layering is by relayering white on my tyranids after shading all over. White is so transparent and seeing how paint thinness works, for HOURS, with layers gives you quite a bit of understanding of it.

Great instructional video. I especially liked that you showed things like when the paint is too thin etc. Something that is often mentioned by other youtubers, but rarely shown. I think that beginners will that find very helpful. But the biggest value of this video for me, is the clarity of explanation about glazing etc. Personally not a fan of the 'Eavy Metal style of super hard edge highlights on every part of the model, but recognise the skill involved in creating it, and super useful for developing brush control.

Hello friend. Great tutorial and explanation on some aspects of the eavy metal technique. I have a little question for you, how do you get the Bonewhite from VGC to work properly? I got a bottle of it myself, of the "old" formulation, and I just can't get it to cover properly at all. It's always incredibly transparent and has poor coverage no matter how much I shake the bottle. To be honest, a hanful of VGC paints acts this way for me and they got mixing balls in them and I've shaken them like they owe me a lot of money. Especially the reds, dark green, a blue, and bonewhite act this way. And seeing painters like you and Doctor Faust use VGC so much and paint to such a high quality I figured it has to be a me problem
@MattsHobbyHour Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what could be causing that problem. I haven't had any similar problems with VGC paint. If your paints are really old it's possible that the pigment has settled on the bottom and gotten rock hard, and it's not mixing with the medium. You could try taking the dropper tip off the top of the bottle and scrape the bottom of the bottle with a stick. Alternatively you might try out a fresh bottle. Hope you find out what the problem is, and good luck!
@sweatilaa5325 Жыл бұрын
@@MattsHobbyHour oh okay, didn’t know that, good to know at least that it’s a me problem and not a VGC problem. Might have something to do with the fact that when I started painting 4 years ago I bought them in one of those packs, the starter and advanced pack they had. Since I got them from Amazon I have no idea how long they’ve been sitting on some shelf. I’ll give it a try with scraping the bottom, would be a shame to get new paints if the old actually work fine. These days I’ve been buying my paints directly of the shelves and I’ve been having better luck with quality. Thanks :)
@MattsHobbyHour Жыл бұрын
@@sweatilaa5325 yeah that's the risk of buying online. The good thing about VGC is they just redid their line if paint and changed the bottle design. So you know you're getting fresh paint if you get one of the new bottles.
