MUSIC
I sometimes and use 50’s/early 60’s recordings taken from acetates with no identifying artist or song name. I have unfortunately used music after seeking permission from an artist and this music has now been released causing me issues, this means that from time to time some of my videos will have to be edited and reloaded. This seems crazy to me as I’m actually generating a fan base for artists to only then be penalised for promoting them. If you are a music artist producing surf or rock and roll music and would like me to use your music then please contact me as I can give you free air time in front of a guaranteed audience. I also use music from the royalty free catalogue from youtube. I also plan to produce my own channel music.

Ha ha, I saw that technique on another channel, too. Guys say it really works, I've never tried it. The difference between the pro and the amateur is how they deal with complications. Like professional golfers, they have a bag of practical tricks like this one, to get them out of the sand. Trev, your channel is the best!

Just come across your excellent videos ,a good tip I used to use being a retired sprayer is when the run starts wait till the paint semi hardens and the run is still wet put some masking tape over the run,then pull it away ,the high point disappears and the paint underneath self levels,try it it works , also when painting holes radius the metal as paint don't stick to sharp edges.

Excellent techniques as always Trev. Another little tip you are probably well aware off but fresh wet runs can be lifted off the surface with masking tape. If you catch the moment it can be almost 100% effective but at the least it takes off the bulk of the run making it much easier to flat out when it's dry. Love the channel mate.

I only learned of the filler trick on runs a few years ago but it can be a lifesaver. I've always run my razor blade over some old 320-600 grit paper before using it to scrape a run down. It only takes a few minutes to round over the corners and help keep them from digging in. Never tried the tape trick on the blade for dust nibs. Might have to give that one a go. I've always used a run file (we called them nib files) to deal with dust nibs. I never had much success with using those files on runs. Nice job on the video. As someone below mentioned your detailed instruction was better then the other vids I've seen on this technique.

I have been using this method for quite a while with Dolphin Glaze. It does work. Blocking down a run without a layer of putty can lead to a breakthrough of the underlying paint surface and then a repaint is required. Using a film of fine filler over the top prevents breakthrough.

This explains a lot for me Trev .I never understood why runs would sometimes come out easy enough and other times I would sand through the paint and still have a bit of the run left, when the paint on either side of the run is lower than the surrounding area.

Hi Trev, thanks for the great tips in all of your videos. I was taught by an old body man to round the corners off a razor blade with sandpaper before using it to scrape runs down. It stops it from digging in. Also, I know the tools shown at the end of the video as 'carbides'.

A little tip for you years ago i had a job which involved removing very stubborn stickers from plastic casings and we had to use razor edge scrapers for this very similar in sharpness to the safety edge razors and they use to dig in as well to over come this we would sand of the very corners of the scraper with some 400 grit wet and dry and a little white spirit to leave a rounded edge which would almost never dig in unless you were a little careless using it give it a try i am sure it would work for your purpose.Love the videos keep it up Thanks

Nice tip, thanks. I know it's late, but you can turn the edge of a razor blade by 'wiping' a screwdriver shank (or similar) hard along the blade at an angle. It turns the blade into a tiny little plane that shaves off the bare minimum of material without chattering or digging in (round the corners off on a sander too).
@trevsblog
@trevsblog 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, another viewer messaged to say about putting fine line tape over either ends of the blade, this raises the blade just off the paint and works great for cutting the tops off dust inclusions. Cheers Trev 👍

i use the air dry stopper for those runs rather than a epoxy one, but use normal stopper for regular stopper work. before that method i use to use a 36 grit disc on a grinder with two de-teethed hacksaw blades taped either side of the run, tricky part was not hitting the tape too soon so the blades flew off............................i found magnetizing them helped.

When I've had runs I've used the glazing putty route but used a small block of hardwood at the papers backing. Literally 30mm square with radiused edges. We get merbau decking here in Oz and it's great for making these little blocks. It means you can keep the block right on top of the thickest part of the run and angle it towards the thickest part of the glazing putty. Doing this means I haven't gone through the topcoat/clearcoat so far.
