How did you prep the top though for the algonquin wash so you wouldn't get bleed through there?

Using a clear shellac will help that after sanding

Do you always prime when painting white, even if it’s not a bleeder?

Yes pretty much - whites are not the best on coverage so it helps to cut down on the 5 coats of white and save me a little on the paint!😆
