Thank you SO MUCH for this, I have been going about it all wrong! I've just started learning to paint at 35 and have never done it before and I'm just winging it and mixing was a big source of frustration for me, because I just kept adding into the same 'blob' and it would get bigger and bigger and less and less usable.

Thanks! I already had brown so I just added white and some Cadmium Yellow and it was perfect then just added a little more brown for the other person. Worked great! Turns out I was using to pink a tone but couldnt figure out how to get the perfect shade.

Our skin tones are NOT mostly yellow. Everyone has different undertones in their skin, even Caucasians. Some have more yellow, some more red undertones, and some more purple undertones. Saying that Caucasian skin tones are mostly yellow is just plain erroneous. That being said, being a POC myself, the general concept of this video helped ring some bells in my memory from art school. My teacher explained skin tones really well in terms of using different undertones to express different values. I'm not as good at explaining it as he is, but basically use more purples for darker values and rose/red for middle values. Anyway, great video!

Use a wet palette to keep your paints from drying out. Simple to make.. use a sponge to make a platform to build your wet palette. Then, cover with baking paper. Now you need a container of your liking. I use a longish Tupperware container. You wet your sponge and squeeze out excess water. Still needs to be wet , but not soaking wet. Now your baking paper will curl some just wait until it relaxes some. Add paint and there you go your paint won't dry out for as long as sponge's are damp.
