Nice to see it progressing along, that shade of red looks superb! I wanted to leave a comment regarding your issues with the liquid poly and how the top of the tender seemed to bend similarly to Tom Rolt, I believe this time it may have been due to the liquid poly itself. The way it works is it melts the plastic in order to form a strong bond between two pieces, typically this is good for applying small seperate details but not so much for things that aren't plastic I believe what happened is that it melted the surrounding resin which caused it to warp, since it wasn't trying to bond plastic together it also ended up creating a goopy mix of liquid gravity and poly rather than setting and drying properly
@GWilliamsonModelsАй бұрын
Yes that may be true, but the bunker bend was before I had even started anything to the model. I can’t remember using liquid poly on Tom rolt, I think it was superglue, but I’d have to check that!

Something to consider with Liquid Gravity is that it is half the density of lead so if you are really tight on space, lead shot will give you more weight. Diluted PVA is good to glue either in.

Hey Ho George! What we did to add weight when I were a nipper doesn't bear thinking about these days. We *all* knew lead was poisonous and I suspect fumes and absorbtion explains some of the more "interesting" views from among those of us "of a certain age"!! In one of my old Merioneth Mercury mags there's a reference to centrifugal lead casting being the best way of shortening hanging curtains. Ever thought about a working 009 weighbridge, or is the missus parucularly atrached to her kitchen scales? Merry 🎄 Crimbo to you and yours and thanks for all the inspiration over the past year. See you on the flipside.

Hi George, really enjoying your videos. Was thrilled to see you doing a Garratt. I'd looked at one of these and convinced myself it would be too big. Then your video popped up and I'm hooked all over again. One is on order and I've tried to obtain the other parts from RT Models. I wonder if anyone else has experienced problems with this? My order was refunded without explanation and I can't get a reply from them. It now appears they are out of stock! If anyone knows of an alternative I'd appreciate it. Looking forward to seeing your finished model - cheers!

Great video as always. They look magnificent on the WHR and who wouldn’t want one in model form. I’m curious about why you think of the compromises needed to use the 08 chassis. Namely the fake pony wheels, the half missing smokebox door, and the highly visible mechanism.
@GWilliamsonModelsАй бұрын
Well the compromises aren’t ideal, and I find the fake pony wheels quite distracting, but I guess it’s the best we can do for this price range. I’m still working on hiding the mech though. Even just plain plastikard over it would look better than what it currently is

It's looking good, George 👍. Deluxe Materials Liquid Gravity is a great product. I don't think it contains lead, I think that it's supposed to have the weight of lead without the toxicity of lead. 😀
@GWilliamsonModelsАй бұрын
That would be a sensible move if correct!
@ExpressRhubarbАй бұрын
I think I'll try defying Liquid Gravity~ she's coming together a treat =) one tip I picked up from Corbin at railwaymania was using Halfords filler primer and wet and dry sandpaper the get rid of some of the stubborn print lines. Only that might blow tiny 009 models away! :P
@GWilliamsonModelsАй бұрын
Yes but I felt that wet and dry would be too fiddly around all of the pipe work. I’ve done that in the past with less detailed prints though
@JulianSaundersАй бұрын
You could get a ton of lead in the loco boiler?
@Micycle121Ай бұрын
You can indeed, although in the most recent version I left the boiler cavity open from the underside as it allows much easier installation of DCC. Some weight in the boiler is good, but too much will cause it to lift the power units off the rails at each end as it tries to sink between them
@GWilliamsonModelsАй бұрын
I am going to do that now so one mentioned it
@melanierhiannaАй бұрын
The Liquid Poly isn't a glue, its a solvent. It glues plastic together by chemical bonding (melting the plastic so it actually welds) not physical bonding (like traditional glue). I doubt it can actually melt liquid metal. But it probably can melt resin! I always use super glue.

George self adhesive tyre weights are a good alternative if you have space. They come on strips in 5 and 10 grams pieces.

if you put weight into the boiler it should add weight on both power units. it is important to make sure the pivot point is over the wheels though before doing that or you improve the traction on the rear drive whilst partly lifting the front off the track...
