If you ever wondered what time travelling would be like, this is it. The shop is gone, but the atmosphere and beauty that got captured in the painting will remain for a long long time.

This is great Matt, you are a genius on this. Sincerely this is the kind stuff I want to see more. More pencil, brush and watercolor, hands flowing on art, instead of digital. More human, less machine. Regards!

I like how the cool colours of the storefront allowed you to emphasize the warmth of the sign and the bakery interior. To me, bakeries are warm, inviting places and I think you captured that. I can almost smell the bread! :-)

I love the way you make details and calligraphy with a brush. I find that to be difficult but it might be due to my brushes being of low quality. The final painting looks beautiful.

Love this! Why are the various shops closing? Kinda sad. Thanks for sharing your art with us. I enjoy watching you draw and paint very much
@mattjabbar3 жыл бұрын
I don’t know about this one but mostly it’s because there is no young people who want to run some of the traditional stores. So these close when the owners get too old to continue the business.

@@mattjabbar oh I understand now. It’s the same way with some stores here in America too. Thanks for answering.

Brilliant work! Why did you use blue and teal for the shadows? They seem to be a reoccurring thing in all of your shop front series..
@mattjabbar3 жыл бұрын
Japan has very dark, intensive shadows almost all day (especially in the summer). I like to represent them with the teal color which I just happen to like and I think it fits well for this purpose.

How can you keep drawing with all the eraser rests lying in the paper, and don't blow them away?
@mattjabbar3 жыл бұрын
I use a brush, but at this stage I erase a lot so I just don't bother so much.

do you mean you pencil, then light pencil, then fountain pen on the same piece ? followed by watercolour in the end....
@mattjabbar3 жыл бұрын
The first pencil (sketch part) is in my sketchbook. So only the light sketch and fountain pen go on the final paper.

@@lukaszpokoju haha...you make sense😅
@mattjabbar3 жыл бұрын
It’s all about controlling the amount of “looseness”. Start from small exercises- like drawing a chair from many distances (like really close to you to far away) it will help to get the details and line right. 👍 keep practicing
