We had a quick trip up to Glencoe and decided to stop first at the waterfall at the foot of Buachaille Etive More. An amazing day with golden colours but the painting turned out to be a bit of a trial.

Beautiful location, a lesson showing nature gives and takes . A lesson noted, painting doesn't always work out. It's ok accept it importantly don't let it knock your confidence. Thank you for sharing James.

Hi Steve, It was an awesomely beautiful place. But painting Watercolour in the highlands in Scotland you’re asking for trouble 😀 It was a very memorable trip though, even though the painting didn’t turn out. Best wishes, James

What a great lesson for us all! I’d never thought about the damage a little rain might cause to a watercolor painting. It was a bit of a shock when it happened. So glad you still posted the video. I think we learn more from the unexpected. I got some lovely screen shots of the location for reference. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Chamus, It was a wonderful location, ruined by the rain. However, when I think back on it, it was a lot of fun. One of the reasons I paint in Watercolour is because it makes being an artist, more adventurous and exciting. It’s such a transportable medium. Tanya says she’s glad you liked her socks! Best wishes, James

Hi Tracey, It really was a beautiful place and the colours were amazing. I like to finish the paintings in one go really, I find it more exciting that way. I do do paintings in the studio, but I tend to do them from sketches and photographs, it’s a very different experience from painting outdoors Hope your painting is going well. Best wishes, James

Glad you still showed the reality of plein air watercolour painting. I feel your pain. I always take a photo first and. if need be. I will finish it in the studio. The blooms from the rain are all part of the story in the painting though (within reason of course). I will look forward to the watercolours inn Spain.

Thank you for posting even though you weren't able to complete it. I must say I was a bit disappointed though, as I imagine you were too, when you couldn't finish it. Your loose watercolor painting style is very exciting to watch. I was waiting to watch the finishing strokes that are very interesting in the way you do them. Your loose style creates a much more interesting painting than the usual way of watercolor painting I see online. I find myself looking for your videos every day hoping you will do another watercolor painting. also, if you ever do decide to finish this one, please be sure and post it. I'd love to see it. I do think the water spots would make it interesting too. Also, I love the camera work.

@@JamesPotterAboutArt I’ve just had lunch with a group of people who are not long home from 2 months in Scotland and England and they only had 4 days of bad weather the whole time they were away. Very interesting video. I spent 3 hours drawing a lovely building the other week o ly to ruin the painting by using some old paint that separate when I put some new paint over the top. Ruined the building completely. Never mind my own fault should have used the new paint rather than use up the old stuff.
